My uncle's neighbor was flying somewhere in the US. He ended up being next to guess who? Werner Stengel. The only thing he really said was "You can't build rides fast enough for the Americans." I thought this was pretty kool. Could this mean something? My guess is we're gonna be getting some REAL speed demons in the next few years!

That quote says nothing about getting more rides, all he was saying is that coasters are like a drug too us, we need more all the time.

Why is "faster" better? I don't want faster rides, I want rides that are reliable, have a good mix of vertical and lateral forces, are well-maintained, and leave me awestruck and breathless in the final brake-run.
Hey...I just described Cornball Express and Raven!

We are the folks that came up with crack cocaine, after all. (No Cure for Cancer was on TV in our hotel room this weekend.)
I could care less about bigger and faster. I just want to have more fun.

The coasters aren't fast enough. I mean come on, don't you agree, we all want faster rides!!
Wow. I'm amazed that you know me and my coaster riding tastes well enough to know exactly what I want in a coaster! No, as a matter of fact, I don't necessarily want a faster ride. I want a better ride.
As far as the actual statement, how can you know for sure that Stengel was talking about speed of the ride? Were you there? Did you hear his voice inflections? What is the context of that statement? There are three main reasons why the GP stay off of rides. Height, inversions, and speed. Considering Stengel's position within the Amusement industry, I'm assuming he knows a little about physics, and the correlation between speed and many other forces acting against the body in any given direction. (G-forces, centripital forces, etc). Given those assumptions, I can't read that we're going to be getting a 200 mph coaster soon. That would be irresponsible of him on so many different levels. Considering America's "Throw-Away consumer" mentality, and our incontentment with stuff, the likelihood of his comment being in reference to the production of rides and coasters becomes ever more likely.

"Getting on Iron Wolf is kind of like going in a blender and pressing PUREE"
Werner Stengel knows what we like. I am an American Studies major at UMBC (Univ. of MD Baltimore County) and in one of my classes we discussed different examples of how Americans always want more more more. So I mentioned that it wasn't as big a topic as say cars, money, etc, but roller coasters fit into the category. I mentioned how they are getting higher, faster and everything. My professor asked for speed and height examples so I mentioned MF, Hypersonic, the possible stats of CP's new coaster and unlike everyone else I tell this stuff to, he was not surprised at all.
Man I could write an entire paper on American Culture and its effects on rollercoasters, or vice versa. I did write a paper on coaster enthusiasts as an American sub-culture and I received quite a bit of praise for it by the professor.
The point is, it is obvious that Mr. Stengel knows what we like, and he knows we can never have enough of it. No matter what it is.
Keep em coming Werner!
