Weird element

Hey, everybody! I was wondering if anyone knew the name of that cool element on Intamin's Goliath at Six Flags Holland? In this picture, it is just to the left of the stengel dive. For now, I'll call it the "weird banked turn hill thingie". Hope someone can enlighten me! Thx

I don't know of an official name for it, but it has been dubbed a 'Stengel Dive' after the coasters' designer, Werner Stengel.

I don't know if it has an official name, but this is what everyone calls it.

He's talking about the element below the Stengel dive.

I don't think it's an "element" per se, it's just a banked turn, a flat spot, and then a banked turn in the opposite direction. There's two of them on that ride.

A day is a drop of water in the ocean of eternity. A week is seven drops.

i was actually wondering about the one to the left of the stengel dive - it kinda looks like a non-inverted corkscrew (i guess)

at www.rcdb.com, they list out the elements in that ride, and they list "carousel" as one of them, so that may be it. the text from the site is: "Elements in order: Large hill, large hill (the track on this hill is heavily banked and being called "the Stengel Dive"), carousel, vertical hill, helix and 3 bunny hops."

Sorry, I only skim read the message which is a bad habbit I should get out of.
Stengel dive is the official name (by the Stengel design team themselves) of the 'wicked turning hill' on Goliath.

"Horizontal loop" is what the park calls the near-helix after it and "Caroussel" is what they call the helix itself mid-ride.

ok, for the people who don't seem to understand what element i'm referring to, its clearly shown in this picture. Hope this helps!

It's kinda akin to B&M's s-curve on Nitro and Medusa. Thats what I call it anyhow

AHHHH

THAT element is a * Bückel * (German, pronounced book-ull, like in dull)
It's named after a ski zigzag movement...Werner Stengel put something like it on top of a hill :-)
It was first used on Expedition GeForce as a real element, but similar try-outs can be found on Medusa and Apollo for example.

You nailed it, non-inverting corkscrew is one of the names for the same element on S:ROS. I just call it a corkscrew hill.
Not every element has to have a name. To me, its just a hill that enters from one direction and exits in the opposite direction.

Well, it's officialy named "Bückel".
And there is none on Superman Ride of Steel ! That's a corkscrew hill, and it's something different.

Yeah, the difference is SRoS' provides an amazing ejector airtime moment and Goliath's provides nothing more than an interesting visual.

Expedition Ge-Forces is excellent, though (assuming it is a "bückel", too) offering a nice, smooth but forceful flick from right to left.

I read in First Drop that Stengel referred to that element as a "Revolution". I thought "stengel dive" was something that ECC members came up with.

Iron Wolf actually has a similar part where it goes up a (very small) incline banked to the left and then back down sharply banked to the right. it's after the turn after the corkscrew i believe.... however i have never seen any photos of the "back" of that ride so i can't really show it. it's obviously not nearly as pronounced as this one, but it seems to be there for thrill more than function... kinda like trick-track actually.
