Weekday Crowds at CP, how are they?

Sorry if anyone has asked recently but I'm staying at Hotel Breakers from Aug. 16th thru the 18th, (Weds-Fri), and was wondering how crowds were as of late on those days?

I realize I'm getting the half hour early admission, but still just want to know the crowd stats for those days. Thanks. *** Edited 8/14/2006 10:10:42 PM UTC by lakecrystal***

I never go to CP in July or August because its a waste of my time. I'm not saying you will have long lines but keep in mind that that will be the 1st week before a lot of the schools start in Ohio. Obviously the crowds will be better than on the weekend, but there will be lines. Possibly long lines. I don't think anyone here can predict the exact crowd size because there are variables to consider (weather, company picnics, etc...)...either way, I guess even if the park is packed, I've never had a terrible day there. Just some that were much better than others. *** Edited 8/14/2006 11:49:34 PM UTC by Giant WheelJay***

The crowds are fine. The park has a lot of rides to spread those people out. Just don't get in a line over 30 minutes and you'll be fine. Come back when it's shorter. I was there a week ago Friday night, and from 6:30 to 11, rode Raptor, Millennium Force, Iron Dragon, Mine Ride, Magnum, Blue Streak, Gemini, and spent 90 minutes at Famous Daves.

Famous Daves probably had the longest line. :)

My favorite MJ tune: "Billie Jean" which I have been listening to alot now. RIP MJ.

Agreed. Waiting in line for a long time at CP is dumb. I mean as long as you have a whole day and know what you're doing and stuff.

Sweetness... I'm going the same time (thurs & fri, friday @ the H2O park only for certain reasons)... but from past experience during the week, crowds are fairly light.

I was there in late June & they were extremely lite for most rides, as wait-time towards evening never exceeded 15 minutes for 90% of their coasters (Dragster & MF being the only ones with maybe longer ones). Im sure you'll get near walk-on's on most rides there... except the new flats & the two coasters (TTD, MF).

How are the crowds? Hot, sweaty, and sunburned.

Waa?! I've never ever seen walk ons in July or August on "most rides". Unless you hit the park on a bad weather day. I worked on the point for two summer in the late 90's and vowed that I would never return as a guest during July or August. Unfortunately I didn't keep that promise to myself. I've been back in both months and it hasn't changed. I can understand trying hype up your favorite park ,but I can't understand why some want to give people a false sense of security/ high expectations when it comes to lines at CP. If you go to the point in July or August you will have a large crowd and you will spend the majority of your day in lines.

I haven't waited more than 15 minutes for Magnum, Mean Streak or Blue Streak in years. My string of 15 minute waits for Raptor was killed earlier this year when I waited around 1/2 an hour - 45 minutes on a really busy day. It was one of the first really warm weekends of the year and it was busy. I waited a 1/2 hour for Iron Dragon!

The crowds should be reasonable at least one of those days, if not all three.

I'm not going to say I don't believe you because I'm not sure what kind of days you go, however, I have been there on busy days and not so busy days and I have never seen a 15 minute wait for the Raptor. Earlier this year I went on the first weekend in June. It had rained in the morning and the crowds were extremely light. The line for the Raptor was still 45 minutes long. I'm assuming you are a local and can go when you want. Your posting makes it sounds as if there is never a line for Raptor. I know for a fact that on busy days in the summer the line still exceeds a 2 hour wait time. To argue about this is silly since this is fact. Not trying to bash the point or anything. Still my favorite park after all these years BUT there is no way I'm going to sit here and tell people that CP doesn't have long lines in the summer time. I will admit that Mean Streak, Blue Streak, Iron Dragon, and to a lesser extent Magnum have relatively short lines compared to MF, TTD, and Raptor. However, on a busy day, you can still wait up to an hour for a "short line coaster" and 2- 2 1/2 for the three most popular. You can post that this is untrue all you want but since I have seen it with my own eyes, you are going to have a hard time convincing me otherwise *** Edited 8/15/2006 2:24:09 PM UTC by Giant WheelJay***

Ok, ok... the past three years in '06, '05, & '04 were all at the end of June, and that's when crowds were lite...

BUT... this is a weekday, so if hit early enough, most lines should be rather tame... as well as at night. Only tough-spot may be between noon & 7pm.

Hey, I go about every other week, and I'm telling you, aside from Millennium Force, Dragster and Raptor, most of the lines are manageable even in the bulk of summer. Aside from those three rides, if you see a line, come back later.

Was there last Monday and Tuesday...longest wait of the two days oddly enough was for Raptor at about 90 minutes...MForce was a little more than an hour both days. TTD was somewhere in between those two times.I consider myself lucky with those wait times considering I drove 11 hours to get there.

Aside from those three rides, if you see a line, come back later.

And two of them are on the Early Entry roster, so if you stay in Breakers Express the night before, you're just golden.

Have a good trip. Hope the weather agrees with you.

It all depends what time of day you are going to ride. In the morning or right after rain Raptor will have Hour+ waits even on average days. Because it's the first major ride by the gate everyone goes right for it, we'd even have to do crowd control on the midway since a few thousand people are lining up to ride. Mid afternoon/evening though it will dwindle down to no more than a 15 minute wait or even a walk on.

Lines were fine when I went a couple of weeks ago. Although the lines on Friday will be longer than those on Wednesday and Thursday. There was a 30+ minute wait for Magnum on Friday when on Thursday, at any point of the day you could pretty much go and only wait 15 minutes to walk right on.

Cool, thanks for all the input guys. Is there usually a crowd waiting around for MF and Dragster to open? Well, MF is in the bunch of rides that open early so nevermind on that. But what about Dragster, do people just kind of file in as it opens, or is there a large crowd waiting for it to open? Although I much would rather ride it at night. Does the line for it ever die down any?
I found that the line for TTD was shortest right at lunch time. The best way I hit all coasters is to start the morning at Corkscrew and work back towards Mean Streak, hitting Magnum and Mine Ride along the way. Around noon-1 check TTD, thats where I found it to be the shortest, about 45 mins. Then eat and hit up the other small coasters (DT, Blue Streak, Wildcat, Iron Dragon) and save MF, Mantis, WT, and Raptor for last.

The last time I visited CP was a Saturday in the middle of July. I thought it was going to be complete suicide but I got one ride on Raptor during the day in under half an hour and I also got 6 rides in just before closing, most with a two or three train wait. And of course with the way CP runs Raptor that's more or less a total walk-on.

I also got 2 rides on MF under half an hour (one using the speed pass thingy that's gone now) and I didn't wait for more than 15 minutes for anything else in the entire park except for TTD which I actually got onto in 15 minutes once it finally opened up for the day.

Get there early, stay late, and use some common sense. It really shouldn't be that hard to avoid the lines.
