Wearing face masks on coasters?

I thought I saw someone post briefly on having to were masks on a coaster at Disney California Adventure.

Is this true? And whatever for?

Not true. However DCA does have an S&S Space shot called the Maliboomer which there are clear masks in front of you to reduce the sound of screaming guests due to residents nearby. The way they drown out the sreaming for the Califonia Screamin' coaster is with two large blue see through tunnels on the 2 highest drops for the same residents reason as the space shot. Atleast this is how it was a year ago and probably still is.

My cousin and I wore SCREAM masks on coasters at SFMM once. We had them in our pockets, then we'd put them on during dispatch. We would lean as far forward as possible and stretch our arms over the people in front of us. Then we;d remove the masks. We'd follow the people who were sitting in front of us and watch their reactions when they saw the on-ride photo of a SCREAM ghost coming over their back! Fun time!

on the western coaster show las night, disney decided to not have the masks on. if they think they don't look good, then they need to remove them. they really detract from the ride experience, unlike screamin's tubes, those are cool.
Theres a picture of someone wearing a scream mask at the Mean Streak photo booth.

That seemed odd to me when I read it too...

In this picture you can see the "mask". It appears to be attached to the OTSR. Most likely, it is there to reduce noise (with the side effect of reducing spit...)

Oh, I see... More like shields then masks

I have heard that they installed "shields", as well as the "tubing" to prevent excessive noise.

I don't know if I like that whole shield thing.
