Waterspout up at CP this past sunday

Was surfing over at poitbuzz and walt posted several photos of a waterspout on Lake Erie and was wondering if there was anyone else up there that saw it and if CP did anything.

Here's the link for the photos: http://www.pointbuzz.com/Gallery.aspx?a=363

Holy crap. I can't believe people are riding Magnum with a tornado right there. That is seriously scary.

My blog You said, "I'm gonna run you down." I heard, "I'm an orangutan."
I didn't see this one, but when I was back at CP in 1993 I remember being on the lift hill of Magnum and seeing the same thing in Lake Erie. I have pictures, one of these days I'll get around to posting them. Somewhere. Maybe.
Wow that's amazing! I would of liked to seen that in person.
Wonder what the people that were riding Magnum, like Den said, where thinking if they saw it...

TTD was built, TTD was broke, TTD is alive.

Looks like it never touched the ground, or water, so it could've been a cold-air funnel. More info here: http://www.theweatherprediction.com/habyhints/329/
I was walking across the parking lot behind Gemini (without my camera) when all of the sudden Jay shouts, "IT'S A WATERSPOUT!" (in all caps, even!). I ran to the car and pulled out the camera and started shooting. There was one well-defined waterspout moving across the tip of the peninsula...that would be right-to-left as I saw it across Soak City; I have no idea how far offshore it was. After a few minutes, that one dissipated, and moments later a second one began to form. The second one never extended all the way to the water, but it had a more distinct funnel shape than the first one did.

I got about five minutes of videotape out of the incident; several of the photos on PointBuzz are captured from that videotape.

It's not a tornado though. In fact, it's not even that dangerous as it will fall apart in shallow water or on land. Walt could probably tell you more... he's the meteorologist.

The only waterspouts that I actually seen was back in 2000. I was working on the train that year. I saw two of them on the water. Really scary at the time, cuase I never seen one before. Great pics of the spouts though.

The family and I were standing in the station for Dragster when the funnel cloud/water spout was seen. The park shut down dragster for about 4 minutes then decided to go ahead and let it run. Didn't matter much to us, we had been standing there 50 minutes while it was being fixed so we were ready to ride. Seemed like it broke down once an hour sunday and monday. I was hoping to get in a couple of rides, but 1 will have to do. As for me, it looked more like a funnel cloud. Seen my fair share of tornados here in central illinois, including one that hit the houses a block away from a apartment building I was living in.

Damn Cornfields

Last time I went to CP was in 1984, and saw a waterspot that scared me as a teenager so much, i have yet to return there! Jeff...promise no blizzard when i come up to Castaway Bay this winter?

This is the article I referenced on PointBuzz. It offers a good explanation.
