Was there a coaster that set records ?

In the 70's that is ?  Does any one know what coasters set recorords in the years 1970 to 1974 ?
I don't know that, but I do know Revolution had the first *successful* vertical loop in 1976.
Or a coaster any time in the 70's will be fine.

Gemini was the tallest coaster in the world in 1978 when it was built, at a staggering 125 feet tall.

The Beast set the records for the tallest, fastest, and longest coaster in 79.

You mean other than Cedar Point's Corkscrew that year (which opened first)? Or the one in those ancient black-and-white photos of some Coney Island ride, the one that is a perfect circle?

Cedar Point's Corkscrew set a record for the number of inversions--- 3 of them, all on one coaster! Who would have imagined it was possible? (I remember being terribly impressed by it when I first rode it back in '76.)
Loch Ness Monster was the first coaster with interlocking loops (built in '78)
125 feet tall is pretty tall back in the 70's. We got to 200 feet 12 years ago, so it was pretty tall. AndRevolution was the first coaster to be built with a loop since the 1900's. And it is still there. They didnt tear it down in 1/2 a year like those old loopers.
Yeah, well in its current state at magic mountain they may as well tear it down.
That's wrong!! Even though Revolution isn't in the best condition with the OTSR's, it's still an incredible ride. If the order new Intamin trains it may feel less...painful

This may be a couple years after the seventies, but Viper at six flags darien lake opened in 1982 and was the first coaster ever to do five inversions- and the funny thing is is that viper is almost as smooth as b+m creations, imo.

Great American Scream Machine built in 1973 at Six Flags Over Georgia. Tallest, longest and fastest wooden coaster in the world.
The Beast by the way held the record for longest coaster for 20 years and is still the 4th overall and 1st longest with wooden coasters.

The Demon(turn of the century) of Six Flags Great America also opened in 1976. It opened on May 29th.
IMO, The Beast will probably retain its record of longest wooden coaster for some time to come, as more parks are finding out that bigger doesn`t always mean better.  An example is right across PKI, Son of Beast.  Some people say that it is rough.  I personaly don`t think so and think its a great ride.  But more parks would rather build a smaller, cheaper and smoother ride than a huge ride like SOB, so I think that SOB may hold its records for a while just like its dad has held on to his title of longest wooden roller coaster for more than 22 years!

I thought that Shockwave at SFOT was the first coaster with back to back vertical loops. I am not totally sure but That is what i was told by a worker at the park.

 Revolution, Corkscrew (KBF, now closed)
