Was dumping Mr. Six a huge mistake?

I know what you're thinking, haven't we been over this last year? I'm not suggesting any kind of petition campaign, so you can relax. I've seen the commercials for SFA multiple times and they just lack something when compared to the Mr. Six campaign. Nothing in the commercials makes me want to visit and I'm a season pass holder with a parking pass. I've only been twice so far.

So why do I feel so disconnected this year versus last? Certainly, if you look at my trip reports from last year, things usually weren't all that great, and this year has been much better so far.

I've tried to chalk it up to high gas prices, lack of any new attractions (except for shows), cooler weather and removal of two attractions, but somehow it still doesn't fly in my head. If you look at the points I've made:
a) Gas prices--the park's only 50 minutes away, and I drive an economical car
b) Lack of new attractions--I've often been in agreement that it would be better to work on getting the existing attractions working properly first before adding anything else. Did I really mean it?
c) Cooler weather--it has warmed up quite a bit, but I still don't want to go to Hurricane Harbor, nor the park
d) Removal of two attractions--let's face it, Iron Eagle was a mess and I had long waited for the day it would be removed. Still, it looked cool and we lost the centerpiece of the park. Krypton Comet, again kind of a mess of a ride, but it was a lot of fun to ride.

Mr. Six, never left. A new commercial will be out very soon.

I don't know, I think if a 36 year old isn't visitng the park as much this year because you don't see Mr. Six every once in a while on TV, you're probably quite an anomaly.

I mean do you really like the Vengaboys that much?

Yeah, when i was in texas at the start of the season, a comercial came on and it was the usual venga bus song and you did see Mr Six.
Although he was not the focus you still saw him.

At the time i figured they did not have time to set up whatever new add strategy so they had to edit 05 comercials and they voice overed the info on the new shows parades ect for the whole family.

JUst at the movie theatre last night in Tampa Mr.Six get rushed by eager guests running through the gates For Goliath(SFoG)

I'd agree that the commercials I've seen so far this year are lacking some "oomph" that they had in past seasons. But how can you say that this is keeping you from the park?!? I mean, come on. You're an enthusiast, you have a season pass, and the lack of flashy commercials is keeping you from the park? Are you serious?

Here is a Mr. Six commercial that doesn't get aired much.

Thanks for another great season, VF!

Well, maybe he means that the commercials aren't motivating him to come out to the park this year as much as they did last year. Face it--SFA is not a great park, IMO. Maybe if SF had better advertising, that might at least kinda get me "in the mood" to get out to SFA more than, say, just some basic bland advertising that won't affect me in the same way.

I don't get the body-bag part on that video... either time.

Welcome back, red train, how was your ride?!
Hey don't make me older than I am! I'm only 35:) I don't turn 36 years old until late November. I'm still part of the coveted advertising demographic for several months.

I've thought it about it some more, and I think the advertising reminds me of the new regime with the super-high pricing on everything. Maybe that's the turn-off. The new advertising just presents the park as this sterile corporate-run park. The tag of "It's more than a themepark, it's an experience," just doesn't match up.

I have to kind of agree with matt. I don't think Mr. Six would make or break my decision on wether or not I should or should not visit my locak park. Hell I HATE the Burger King with a passion. The dude scares the crap out of me for some reason. but I don't let it keep me from sampling a burger from time to time there.

I will say Mr. Six made a lasting impression. Every time that stupid song comes on I start dancing like a complete idiot...then again I always dance like an idiot so it may just be a coincidence ;)

Well, there was a car wreck and Mr. Six decided to lighten the mood by dancing to that goofy song. Instead of taking the body to the morgue, they decided to take it with them to Six Flags for the day. It's Robot Chicken humor. *** Edited 6/9/2006 3:33:45 PM UTC by Coasterbuzzer***

^ Robot Chicken is one of my favorite shows.

That scketch was halarious, but they killed Mr. Six!

Good! I thought I was the only one that gets crap scared out of them by that Burger King guy.;)

But that Burger King guy creates a lasting impression-even if you're scared of him-whereas showing a burger and fries and "Come celebrate 20 years of flame-broiled burgers" probably wouldn't make much of an impression. Let's face it, BK's advertising agency came up with the perfect scary dude to McDonald's Ronald McDonald.
I haven't seen a Mr. Six commercial in the Dallas/Fort Worth area in a long time. As a matter of fact he has been completely removed from SFOT. They no longer play the Venga Boys music at the front entrance. All the Mr. Six banners and signs have been removed, and all the Mr. Six souvenir merchandise has been removed. The only sign of Mr. Six currently is on the season pass, and I assume that is because they ordered the stock well before the Red Zone takeover.

I'm curious as to where that information is coming from, as he seems to be very much gone from the Texas landscape.

Sweet! I thought it was just me, but that Burger King dude, IMO, looks more menacing than Michael Jackson at a 10-year-old's birthday party...

Mr. Six was a great idea, promoting the idea of *multigenerational visits* ;), but alas, he was also associated with some of the darker days in SFI's history, customer service wise...so I can see where the new guys wanted to *distance* themsleves...much like the stock ticker symbol decision.

Well Ronald IS scary too. CLOWNS are scary. *shudders*

My husband keeps joking that he's going to find a standup of the king and leave it in the shower one morning so when I open the doors, the neighborhood can hear me scream. -_- such a loving man...

While at SFOT this past weekend I saw a peep or two sucking soda out of Mr Six's head. If there was any way to make that mascot even creepier than a straw poking out of his geriatic skull, you got me there. Anyway, I doubt they brought the souvenir bottle from home.

Wow, Burger King just got, what, like 6 mentions on a forum about roller coasters?

I can hear can almost hear BK's money dropping into their big fat bank accounts from here...

Mr. Six was Spotted Filming a commercial at SFGAVD about 4 weeks ago. That why he is sure a new commercial is coming out.
