Walt Disney World will keep water parks closed through March

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

In an update on its website, Walt Disney World said it plans to open either Disney’s Blizzard Beach or Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon on March 7, 2021, pending government approvals. Disney didn’t specify which water park would open, saying that it would share more details at a later time. The planned reopening date could change.

With Universal, Seaworld, and Busch Gardens all having their waterparks open, this must be a case of Disney running the numbers and deciding it's just not profitable enough (or at all) to attempt to reopen.

That's what I was thinking. With one of the parks being closed part of winter anyway, I suspect they've got a pretty good idea about what their attendance would look like.

Plus in another two months when the daytime high may only get up to 75 or 78, the locals put their ugg boots on and wouldn't dare go swimming.

Yep...guilty. (Though I skip the boots and stick with jackets).

Meanwhile, I'm the local that loves to hit up the water parks on those 75 degree days in November as I essentially get the place to myself.

I still haven't been to any of the water parks in Orlando since living here other than Aquatica.

I really enjoy Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. Give them a try sometime...though Aquatica is pretty great.

I still haven't been to Volcano Bay. Not for a lack of interest, but I feel like it's had its share of issues and the crowding issues prior to COVID made it seem like it wasn't the most fun experience.

I do really enjoy the Disney waterparks though as well. I haven't been in a number of years, but I always have a great time.
