Waldameer to announce biggest expansion in its history

Waldameer is set to announce its biggest expansion this morning. The park has not said if the Ravine Flyer II, which has been subject to regulatory scrutiny for years, will be part of the project.

In my experience those types of coasters are pretty violent at times, I cant imagine what those turns feel like. Will be there this summer to visit the fam so I will get to ride it.

Anyone know where this is going? I remember seeing construction in the old drive in accross the street, but it looked more like a parking garage than a place to put a ride.

It will be placed in the park, the Erie Times News said "Between Waldameer's stalwarts, The "Spider" spinning ride and the "Comet" roller coaster" All that really tells it that it will be inside the park, since the two rides are on opposite ends of the park. After talking to Paul Nelson, he said that the studies and permits may allow the Ravine Flyer 2 in for 2005, but they still have to deal with the family down the bluff...
I believe that the article said that the ride experience would be something that falls between that of the Spider and the Comet, and that it would be placed by the Sea Dragon.

the ride will be where the pavillions are behind Thunder River, and infront of Rainbow gardens. There will be a temporary, more compact wildmouse coaster placed behind Sea Dragon (where the station for RF2 will be).

I was told last year that that is supposed to be some kind of tourist center with a scenic overlook. Presque Isle State Park is just below on the peninsula, and attrations like the Flagship Niagra are not far.

Okay to clear some things up that may or may not have been mentioned already. I'm ryan from Erie. We go to Waldameer basically every 2 weeks or so. RFII is a wooden coaster with a steel frame that will feature a 165 foot bridge sending the RFII over Peninsula Drive (The road in which Waldameer is on) next to the Tom Ridge Enviormental Center (The new tourist nature center with the observation tower) and back. The RFII will have 6 tunnels, 10 cross overs and the RFII will be using the Lakeview Picnic grove as its station. Now heres the cool thing about the station. It is actually the original RF's station. After they tore it down, they turned the station into a picnic grove. They are now utalizing it as a station again! I just went to Waldameer today just to spend an hour or so to play 21 at the arcade, and I noticed that the first curved hill was completed. Only the drop is done, there is no lift hill yet. It's just the drop. So there's your proof about the constuction.

Also, Waldameer has just added a 140 foot drop tower called the X-Scream. Now, I looked on this website and noticed that they went from the Steel Dragon right to the RFII, seemed to me that they skipped the opening of the X-Scream. ??? This ride is DEFINATLY a thrill ride. It's small, but the drop REALLY packs a punch. You've got complete airtime the whole way down. It's one of my favorite drop towers. I like it better than the power tower at CP.

Hopefully this little update will clear any confusion up.
