Waldameer owner will request variance for Ravine Flyer II

To avoid further delays, the owner of Waldameer Park will ask local authorities to rezone the land to bypass concerns of erosion and allow construction. The project has been entangled in legal issues for years.

I used to know someone who worked at Waldameer and one of their relatives was Steve Gorman (general manager). He sent me a sketch of the coaster, (what it would look like it where built) and the coaster looked really cool. It had many twisting drops and tight corners. The coaster would truly be one of the best in NW PA!

PS. The coaster has two sections that come close to the campground, the first drop (121 feet) and a descending curve.

I have the layout photo that was in the paper a few years ago. I any one that has a site to put it on I can send it to you! P.S. I also have a picture of the

oringinal Ravine Flyer crossing Penninsula drive that was published in the early 90's.

Hmm... how many coasters would there be in NorthWest, PA? It's not like they got that many parks there man... I think that coaster would win by default no matter what it was, basically.

Although I agree with you, you have to remember that one of the arguments against the coaster is environmental concerns, and the Peninsula was there ALOT longer than anything else, and they aren't going to sacrifice it (hopefully) for a ride, no matter how fun it would be.

I am a strong coaster enthusiast, I've been riding since I was 2 years old, and I practically live in Erie PA, I've been going there frequently since I was born, to go to the beach, go to Waldameer, fish, go to the bayfront, and whatnot. I've known about this coaster since its first been available to the public, and I, too, have wanted to see it built. However, with all the time I've spent in Erie, I've grown very accustomed to things the way they are, and I don't know how much I'd like a coaster dipping down to Peninsula Drive and going near Sara Coynes. I know that what I think doesnt really matter, but you have to remember, there are probably alot of peopel who feel the same way and think that waldameer should stay in Waldameer, and not dip to the peninsula. The peninsula is a fragile ecological habitat, from the very base of the mainland all the way to the North Pier, and I think a coaster that has the potential to erode or take away from that ecological value is not worth the fun ride.

Don't get me wrong, and I don't mean to voice the unpopular opinion, but I hope Nelson loses the battle of building the ride down to Sara's. Build it in the park, but straying out of the park is a bad idea, in my opinion.

Also, since I am voicing the unpopular opinion here, please dont take it to be offensive or as a flame, it is in no way intended to be that way, I just wanted to say what I had to say, as Presque Isle is very important to me.

SFWoARules, I only say that cause SFWoA is only open 6 months a year, and Erie is colder than us in NE Ohio most of the time, making Splash Lagoon my winter-weather park :) Park or not, Splash Lagoon was awesome! SFWoA ride side needs to take note of these smaller emerging waterparks, and consider year-round ideas. Cedar Point already is building an indoor waterpark, but it will probably be too expensive for most to attend. Can CP beat $185 for 4 people for 2 days, including hotel? Highly doubtfull!
