WAHOO!

It was announced at a band meeting for my High School Marching Band today that our band trip for theis year will be Walt Disney World! We will be there from April 15-20, and will also march in the parade at the Magic Kingdom. Also on the trip, we are including a trip to Islands of Adventure(my first time there!). I am very excited and will have a trip report when I return. And a quick question: what are crowds like at WDW in mid-april?

Life is Short, get one
WOw, that is really wierd. My marching band (Brockport NY) is also going down to Universal Studios, And Walt Disney World, but we are going The First week of April. We too are going to be marching at magic kingdom. Thats funny that were both going so i thought i would share too.
My marching band is also going to WDW and Seaworld. I am a junior, and all 3 band trips I've been on have been to Florida, it's getting kind of old and boring. We did have plans to go to CP, PKI, and SFWoA during the spring, but our band director misfiled and lost the necessary paperwork!
Disney runs their "Magic Music Days" each year. It's not unusual for half a dozen different marching bands to play each day in each park.

Crowds vary in April depending on the proximity to Easter.

I'm not in my high school's band, but they are also going to Walt Disney World for the Music Days and are marching. I'm not sure what days they are going, but they are staying for a week towards the end of April.

My high school band went to Disney & the Bahamas last year (in April) and we marched in Disney's Magic Music Days at the Magic Kingdom. It was VERY neat to go backstage at the MK and see what it looks like behind the scenes. The crowds were not bad at all, for us at least.

It is a very exciting thing to be a part of, the cast members that helped us were very polite & nice. We got free t-shirts and pins when we were done. Oh! and just a heads up, but I'm sure your director will or has already notified you that they are very strict about picture taking as soon as you get onto the backstage property! As neat as it would have been to snap pictures of Spectro Magic sitting under it's shelter in the day or the backside of Splash Mountain, you just aren't permitted to. If you are a Disney fan like I always have, I hope you fully enjoy the experience to see things in a new perspective!

Before you march out onto Main Street USA, it is very awesome to hear your band's name announced over the loudspeaker and then have the huge parade gates open for you...just wait and see! Enjoy :) *** Edited 11/16/2003 2:53:46 PM UTC by Glitch01***

Our Marching Band is going to San Antonio for the Fiesta San Antonio parade and we are going to Shlitterbahn and SFFT. Pretty cool if I may so myself. Atleast it will be better than last year's trip to SFWoA and the Cleveland Area.

When I'm a senior (2 years) we're going to Florida. I can't wait to go back.

AAHH! When I was in high school, I was in marching band back in San Antonio. Let me tell you, the Battle of Flowers(Fiesta) Parade isn't fun at all. You have to march in heavy band uniforms in the blazing San Antonio heat. It sucks. So many people pass out every year.

My old band went to disney for the band trip, sadly though, we never went inside disney, we just played music at the hotel.

OSS, they told us the parade route it 2.6 miles long. Our instructor told us that we may have conditioning and we may march from our high school across town to one of the Jr Highs and back a couple times. It sounds tough, but I'm up to the challange.

Um, thanks for your very enlightening and "mature" post -- thank you folks, please don't feed the troll, move along, nothing to see here.

Sounds like a fun trip (getting back on topic). Missy and I plan on going down to orlando for spring break again. We plan on hitting Wild Adventures on the way back this year as opposed to SFoG.

Hmmm....lets see, back when I was in High School, we went on a 14 day European Tour, a 7 day trip to Hawaii, and a 7 day thing in Boston/New York. This at Paris High School, in rural Kentucky, with a attendance of about 150 students.

Sometimes I feel bad for kids who only get to go to...Orlando.

Hehehe. I remember my Magical Music Days trip when I was a freshman in the high school band. We were backstage of MK lining up for the parade. When all of a sudden appeared MICKEY himself, with his head off smoking a cigarette. I didn't know they were allowed to smoke when they were in costume but I swear on my life that this chick was smoking.

It ruined my starlit magical eyes for the Mouse House forever. :) *** Edited 11/17/2003 4:14:01 PM UTC by Sarah Jackson***

Please don't use my name in vain.
You all suck.

My high school band went on one DisneyWorld trip every four years. But they skipped a year, so the band went when I was in eighth grade, and then the year after I graduated. Grr.

My blog You said, "I'm gonna run you down." I heard, "I'm an orangutan."
Sarah: You mean Mickey isn't REAL! Just kidding - I used to be a character at Disney, and the rules were always broken at the MK. I wouldn't doubt you saw Miss Mickey smoking in costume. I worked at MGM, and you couldn't even remove your gloves until you were indoors! This was mostly due to the fact that even the backstage area at MGM is still onstage.

Happy 75th birthday Mickey. He doesn't look a day over 12.
Matt, I think that’s why I remember it so vividly because I knew that we shouldn't be seeing that. It is one thing for her to be smoking in costume while carrying her head under her arm, but to be doing it right in front of the bands lining up. Everyone was stunned. That’s one thing I think I wont forget very soon.

I am such a loser that I still have my "teal" (if you can call it that) Magical Music Days shirt. AND I was the ONLY one in my band that didn't get sun burned the whole time we were down there...why...because I wore SPF 50! :)

I dunno...judging by the very high degree of on-topic posts that followed, I don't really think we needed your help pointing that one out to us. Thanks for playing, though, we have some lovely parting gifts waiting backstage.

I didn't get into my band until junior year, after we'd already been to Disney freshman year (we go once every four years, so my chance was blown). We did however get to make the venture to Canada two years ago, and probably made my one and (likely) only venture to Paramount's Canada's Wonderland. Kinda funny how these little trips can have a way of exposing you to things you never would have before. Have a great time!
