Vote now on federal regulation

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Polling site wants your opinion on whether or not the CPSC should regulate amusement rides.

Vote now!

I think that the wording is iffey. It does bias the unknowing general public to vote yes.

I hate to say this is not only coasterbuzz.com. This link was posted on Thrillride.com and Ultimaterollercoaster.com . So it is the whole coaster community helping out.

The "No" group is winning by more than twice the "Yes" group. What a funny thing...actually it's not! It's a GREAT thing! :D
I have a better chance of getting shot at school by peers than I do getting killed on a rollercoaster! What should our government be more concerned with?

Vote no people!

Also, isn't it strange that the logo for a national (US) roller coaster debate has a picture of a British coaster? Isn't that Pepsi Big Max?

I just voted
It seems kind of strange that the poll is worded in such a way to encourage people to vote for more regulation - was the question written by markey or what. Amusement parks are regulated by the states they're in, and overall I'd say they are very safe and well-run. I do NOT go on rides at fairs and carnivals, since they are very loosely regulated, maintenance is irregular at best, and the rides are simply moved to another state WHEN they are inspected and failed. Amusement parks have liability insurance rates that prevent them from operating rides in an unsafe condition, and in our litigious society, unsafe rides don't operate when their owners have "deep pockets". Carnivals and fairs don't operate under the same rules at all, and they probably SHOULD be under CPSC jurisdiction!
