Vivendi Universal's entertainment unit's future still uncertain

Chief executive Jean-Rene Fourtou and media mogul Barry Diller on Thursday said they were renegotiating the terms of their Vivendi Universal Entertainment joint venture, a move that could pave the way for Fourtou to weigh a possible sale or spin-off of the U.S. entertainment assets. The unit was formed last year when Vivendi paid $11 billion to combine its film and theme park properties with the entertainment wing of Diller's USA Interactive Inc. Vivendi has since seen massive debt and a change in CEO's.

Yeah great.....the plot thickens and the eomployees like me wonder if we are going to be out of a job in a few months...I just hope that we won't be Six Flags employees anytime soon.

I wouldn't worry about that although there was rumor floating around the IAAPA convention this year about one company already showing an interest in the parks and basically being told no.

Disney Extreme ... hmmm shounds good but they'd have to gut the parks because they wouldnt be the license holders for most of the themed rides ...

They won't necessarily be sold to anyone, the theme park unit may just be spun off (my guess is with the film studio and anything else entertainment related). If you remember back to the stories around the time they booted the former CEO, they quoted I think some board members about a desire to get back to just their (Vivendi) core business, which is as a French utility.
