"One of the coolest parts of the ride experience will be the countdown lights on the tower itself. Who gets the credit for that idea?"

I know other rides have the christmas tree, but I'm not aware of any that also turn a 420' tower into a giant christmas tree. That is the cool concept I was referring to.

Yeah, well making the distinction between shuttle and full-circuit is pretty pedantic. Might as well say, "but we had the first BLUE rollercoaster over 300 ft". They're still rollercoasters, and it's tedious to split hairs about it. At least there's no question they're the first to break 400 with Dragster.

Yeah, but not everyone agrees that those rides are roller coasters. And if you think that Superman is indeed a coaster, then Cedar Point is not the first to break 400 feet.

I agree, it is pedantic but that's what people in marketing and PR departments do! They play with words to be able to make claims [that most people will not question] in order to boost attendance. How many times have we seen parks claim a record with a qualifier, like "highest on the east coast" [SFNE Superman] or something similar. How do you think Stratosphere is able to the claim "highest coaster" record?

More importantly, how can you say "making the distinction between shuttle and full-circuit is pretty pedantic" and then come to the conclusion that "...there's no question [CP is] the first to break 400 with Dragster." There has been a coaster taller than 400 feet since 1996. It is a dual-tracked shuttle, and it will lose it's Guiness height record when Dragster opens.

NoLimitChic:

During the 2002 season this was correct. If you got one stamp for MF, that was all you could get. You can't get another stamp for any other ride that uses Freeway. Since there will be 6 rides using Freeway in 2003, I don't know if they will change that system.

SFNE's Superman is not the tallest coaster on the East Coast. Nitro is.

"Top Thrill Dragster is the tallest coaster in Sandusky Ohio!"

Just to get the record, CP needs to make a version of
S:TE and maske it 1500 feet tall, even though it would only go up 350 feet of the 1500 feet of track.

Then they will, not only have they world's frist coaster to break the 1000 foot mark, but they'd also have the tallest coaster for some time to come.

Please do not even mention S;TE... It's getting really old.

Ultimate Coaster - When SFNE's Superman opened it *was* the tallest on the East Coast, and that's how the park marketed and advertised the ride. You are correct that Nitro now holds that "record."

Is your screen name Lorrie? If not then I wasn't talking about what you said. If you read what Lorrie said then you'll understand what I was replying to

I was responding to all of the comments that preceded mine in reference to the lights. This is a forum - people respond to what other people write. If you want a private conversation with Lorrie, try e-mail.

Obviously that coaster looks AWSOME! DUH. Anyway, does anyone ever wonder why you don't find a coaster like Top Thrill Dragster in a place like ValleyFair!? Oh, I forgot, Cedar Point needs to get more coasters than SFMM! Well, you know what Cedar Fair, no one more is going to come to ValleyFair because of some stupid impulse coaster! It's wonderful that is in Cedar Point, it sucks that it's not in ValleyFair or a place that could use that kind of popularity! But at least Cedar Fair builds better rides than Six Flags!

-----------------
As soon as Six Flags Magic Mountain starts to treat guests nicely and stops adding these coasters that are never open, then will Cedar Point not need to feel the need for more. Therefore, more money will be spent on ValleyFair and everyone in Minnesota w

CoasterMNguy question -- Need any cheese with that wine? So happy I live near CP, ha ha. Also, Mamoosh you need to get out more. Christmas tree at a Dragstrip has always been a tenth of a second off when it gets to the green, makes the drivers honest.
I found the interview to be very informative and interesting. I just can't wait until the season starts to ride TTD. I don't care what anyone says, it's gonna be an awesome ride. :-)
