Virginia parks ramp up with new attractions

Kings Dominion is cleaning up its entry area to send the message that new owner Cedar Fair is intent on improving the park. It's also adding a new wave pool, tornado slide and a new flume.

Busch Gardens is readying it new B&M dive coaster Griffon, which is expected to open May 25 in the France area of the park.

Its always nice to see competition and that cedar fair takes these new parks seriously.

Why wouldn't they take it seriously? They're not in it to lose money.
Cannot wait to get to both parks this June. Only three more months to go :)
Can't wait to go to both next week. Bought our Maxx Passes from KD instead of Dorney because its a significant savings to do so. Can't beat the deal of not having to buy 2 separate passes now. Thanks Cedar Fair.
Well, it is a nice surprise to hear that they have been working on other areas of the park in addition to the water park expansion. Here is a company who did not officially take over until July 1st of 2006 and we are getting a re-modeled park entrance and 3 new water park attractions. Not bad for a company owning the Paramount Parks for just over 8 months.

It is nice to see that Cedar Fair is showing this level of commitment this early in the game. I have a gut feeling that Kings Dominion is going to get a strong focus from the Cedar Fair corporate office in the years to come. The factors I see are strong competition between 2 other park chains, Busch Gardens and Six Flags; a market base that has not really been tapped as fully as it can be; plenty of undeveloped land for expansion of the park and hotel/motel resort development by CF; also, there is undeveloped land adjacent to the existing park's southern boundaries that has been up for sale off and on for the last several years by either the same or different owners and that could be a future option for CF if they are interested in buying the land; and finally the park is right off of interstate 95 the main east coast highway from Maine to Florida.
