Went to SFGrA for the first time. I love woodies with air time. My all-time favorite is Shivering Timbers at MA. I would have to say that Viper at SFGrA is my second favorite of all-time. It is almost as smooth as a steel coaster, but you can still tell it is a woodie. The air time from the first hill to the end is non-stop. I loved it!!!
I have to agree with you. I wasn't expecting much when I climbed aboard Viper, to be honest! But boy was I in for a shock! It was a great ride with lots of air time! I only got to ride it once. I'd sure like to get back on it.
It is the underdog coaster of the park. Doesn't look like much, but WOW! Kinda like Georgia Cyclone in how it shocked the bejeezes outta me!
Much better than Mean Squeak. :)

I agree coasterkingoftheworld! Most people look at it and wonder what's so good about the ride. They think it's just a stupid wooden coaster(Not everyone, but some people I know..) that isn't worth waiting for.
It is up there for the best ride at the park. At night, I think that it's just as good, if not better than the Raging Bull. I love the ride, airtime galore!

Wow! I too just went to SFGAM for the first time and was blown away by Viper! Definately my 2nd fav. woodie ever (ST is #1). My fiance liked it even better than Raging Bull and it was his fav. coaster there :)
Blink3020, yup, I have a "friend" (someone I talk to, but not really like) who thinks it's stupid because it's an American Eagle wannabe. Every time he says it I laugh hysterically.
JoNoJ27, it is a near-clone of the Cylcone, same basic layout, a few minor differences.

JoNo27, I do believe it is very very similar to the Coney Island Cyclone. Viper is an incredible ride, my #2 wood (it sure is a lot of people's #2) just behind GhostRider. When you consider Viper was built in-house by Great America, it makes an even better accomplishment.

It's my #2 coaster at the park as well, it's up there in my wooden top 10 wooden coasters as well, it's one of the most underrated coasters ever.
Viper = Good wood. How is this thing even comparable to American Eagle. American Eagle doesn't hold a candle to this thing.

Valleyfair Fan, this guy that thinks it's an American Eagle wannabe is a moron. Trust me, he is a height-is-better-no-matter-what person. And in his simple mind, because both are wood, obviously the bigger one is better.
It's a simple mind, in a simple person, thats how he finds Viper comparable to AE.

It is a mirror image clone of the Coney Island Cyclone, with a few minor changes.

I'm an RCDB fan too (second only to cb). Lots of coasters may be named Cyclone, even styled after it, but there's only one MOM.

This is not only my #1 wood this is my #1 coaster. For me Viper = FUN. And that's what it's all about. There are taller rides; faster rides; rides with more air; rides with more laterals. But Viper incorporates the best of all of these into one great package. I can't get enough rides on Viper.
