From my understanding, it is supposed to be reprofiled and get a modified restraint system. The restraints were always my main complaint with the ride. I think it has the potential to be a fun, albeit short, ride if it weren't those @$#%#$ painful restraints. I haven't even ridden it in a while because I am seriously afraid of it really hurting me. I always liked the little old west theming around it though. It is one of the better done themes at the park. A nice break from the superhero crap.
it would be good with only lap bars.
SFNE guy, I don't know, but Viper may actually be the one sit-down coaster that should have OTSRs. That first inversion, even during normal operation, does not provide the force necessary to keep your butt in the seat. That restraint system is the only thing between your body and death at that point. No nice G forces like in almost every other inversion out there. I'm sure there are many alternatives for restraint systems for Viper, but it has been the one looping coaster that always struck me as really needing serious restraint for normal operations. (It seems that many restraints for loopers are there for the worst case scenario, like getting stuck upside down. I have truthfully known ride ops that have ridden a few loopers after hours without restraints, not a practice that I recommend!) ------------- - Peabody
