I am going to bid... it's a good way to support a good cause. Once again, Cedar Point shows it class by hosting fun events that support a good cause.

Technically, the same deal was done with Millennium Force........so I guess you're making a reference to your home park Shaggy????? ;-)

Nope, just to Cedar Point.

Can us ACErs go to the media day for this thing for free?

At least I dont call a vertical loop a "loopdie-loop"!

I still cant believe that people are that *pressed* to ride these things that they would pay all that money. That seems like such a silly thing to do. Just wait a week and you can ride all you want.

And what is all this *class* stuff? This is "Free Advertisement" pure and simple. The fact that it benefits another cause is a fringe benefit.

If one is so committed to a cause like that, just donate the money. The tax benefits alone should be enough *extra* incentive.

Copy cats? Didn't they do this with Millennium Force as well? I'm sure they did.

Cedar Point is pretty well known for the amount of charity-type events it participates in each year. Besides the golf tournament at the beginning of each season, the park also does things such as donate all of the money collected from rides like Demon Drop to local charities. Does it create publicity (read: not advertising) for the park? Sure. Does the park have to do it? Nope.

Jeremy,

Believe it or not, there are those that could care less about a first ride but truly want to help out a good cause (which is what it is all about IMO). Not only can the park benefit from the event, but so can the organization that is doing the benefit. I know folks that have attended media days for a coaster, then pay to ride it on opening day to have money go to a good cause. I see nothing wrong with that at all.

The park has done this in the past with coasters like Raptor, Mantis, and Millennium Force also.

I will have been on the ride before that day. If I have some extra money I may still bid just because it's all for a good cause. That is usually what this kind of stuff is all about.

Can ACE go to the Media Day??
I don't think ACE members in general can go to Media Day. Love the idea of auctioning off "VIP Rides" on Wicked Twister - notice that they weren't called "first rides"- to benifit the Red Cross- a great charity! The Point is very generous when it comes to this type of thing! I'd like to see them do the same with M.F., Magnum, and Raptor- make it an annual event. I don't know the planning involved, but I think lots of Enthusiasts would donate to a good cause for a "VIP ride" on Opening Day. I know I would.
