It looks dreadfully boring.
But, Drift's comments are noted; it sounds like for this particular park it's a perfect fit, and perhaps they attempt to get something a bit larger.
It will be intersting to see how Cedar Point uses this concept in 2009.

Oh no, don't get us started again........... Well, at least not this early ;) *** Edited 5/5/2007 4:46:39 AM UTC by DantheCoasterman***
A good prototype I guess with tons more work to do, but I would think a small park looking to make a splash with a slick, modern steel coaster (*cough* Holiday World *cough*) would go with a Euro-fighter like Mystery Mine instead of this!!
I'd save my money & get the S&S Screamin' Squirrel instead.

Maybe it's a little bit of jealousy or envy that it's not within an attainable distance, so swearing it off and saying "looks stupid" is the best way to deal with the desire to ride? Beats me...
Also, I did not use any profanity, nor did I say it "looks stupid".
I said it looks dreadfully boring.
And it does.
I have no desire to ride, and if it was at my home park I would probably skip it.
And RavenPhile we complain a lot but you are right in some cases with those statements but I think that if people really did like it they would say oh I want to get out to Japan and ride it.
I am digging this thing and think it would be an awsome addition to any small park if it was at the right price.

However, after the repairs had been completed and the coaster was tested, the magnetic brakes didn't stop the car effectively enough and the car breached the safety sector while coming to station. Adjusting the brakes didn't help so the whole braking system has to be replaced.
After witnessing the problems Särkänniemi has had with their Intamin prototype, Half Pipe, it shouldn't have been a surprise to Linnanmäki, that the prototype Ball Coaster might have a few quirks as well.
In other news, Linnanmäki has unveiled its plans to add a custom Maurer Söhne spinner for 2008. It'll be built over a rapids ride.

BTW, thanks for the update on the brakes.

Drift, have you ridden Kirnu yet, and if you have, what are your thoughts on the ride experience. You mentioned some enthusiasts have given positive reviews, yet I've yet to find a single ride review - if you know where they are, can you post the links (please).
I haven't ridden Kirnu. I don't live in Helsinki and with a small kid (and another one coming in June), there's not much time for amusement park trips. I might be headed to Helsinki in the next few weeks and I might be able to squeeze in a trip to Linnanmäki though.
The trip reports I'm referring to are in Finnish and can be found in a Finnish amusement park forum:

The poll in the first link:
"Have you been to Kirnu yet? How did you like it?
68% [11] Really nice!
18% [3] Just ok...
12% [2] Terrible!
It's also interesting that the ride travels only in a straight line (from a top perspective)... maybe we'll see rides like this replacing shuttle loops and reverse freefalls some day. I'd love to see this innovative zipper/coaster combination fleshed and and built with a longer layout.
