Viacom Inc. is ready to sell theme parks owned by its Paramount Pictures division, as well as book publisher Simon & Schuster, chairman Sumner Redstone said on Tuesday. The U.S. media conglomerate splits into two companies on Dec. 31, separating its faster growing cable networks and film business from the relatively sluggish CBS television broadcasting and radio operations.

So what does this mean for the parks? Will they have to drop the movie names/themes from the rides and attractions?
Considering the resources of Viacom, which are on par with Disney, there actually is no reason why the parks couldn't have mega budget attractions. The problem is that they didn't see the long term value in huge upfront investments in the parks. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy. Don't spend the money and create something sub-par or average, then wonder why the parks aren't massively popular? They are too concerned about quarterly results and not what the parks actually could do long term if properly invested in.
I think Paramount Parks have the highest average attendance of any seasonal park chain, so I'd call them "massively popular" in comparison to Six Flags and Cedar Fair in their areas.

DBJ, You've got to be kidding for seasonal parks. There is no way they could make a dime dropping in hundred million attractions.

Yeah, I think with some resorts and camping and stuff The parks can grow some but never on par with Disney or Universal.

WDW gets over 25 million visitors a year. PKI gets 3 million.

Your never gonna be able to charge over 50 at the gate here in Cincy, There is a fine line on what people are willing to spend for things here.

Now, Can they continue to drop 2 and 10-15 million atractions every other year. I'd say yes! So can CP, Hershey and a host of other chain parks.

All in all though the parks are not going to bring in the hundreds of millions a large corperation like Viacom is looking for to grow it's stock value.

Even GE has everything available for sale at a certain price. Viacom is no different.
