VF Coaster Craze 2005: Major Disappointment

Associated parks:
None

I just find it generally inappropriate to kick a park in the nuts when they open their doors for you on a special occasion. Contrary to what some enthusiasts think, the parks don't need us, and rarely reap any substantial benefit from having an event. I'm surprised any parks do events at all.

Of course, I don't go to events for the rides in the first place. See other discussion about what will likely go down after CCFA.

RavenTTD - Don't sweat the brake-free thing or spreading the word with the hopes it would happen this year. We've all heard the "legendary" stories, how WT goes from a rock bottom to a top 10 ride with the flip of a switch. Probably time to let the legend die.

We had a pretty good time at the event by keeping expectations low, laughing it up and generally making the best of things where possible. This is Valleyfair! for heaven's sake, pass the hotdish, ya know? :)

But no matter what everyone should be entitled to post honest reviews of enthusiast events. VF essentially threw a party and it didn't live up to some of the attendee's expectations. Whoopdeefreakindoo.

And like anything, if you post something online that's not popular, be ready to deal with the consequences.

I agree his original post could have been worded better but it was far from a kick in the park's reproductive organs. The most "unpopular" aspect was the way he phrased his disappointment and the only apparent consequence is being told to stay home from one of this site's upcoming events. Maybe it's just me but your reaction seems a little extreme, and judging from the resulting posts, not terribly popular.

Please don't quote the previous post. It's a waste of space.

You can think whatever you like about what's extreme, but it's posts like this that harm our relationship with the parks.

Wow, I just lost all respect for you RavenTTD.

What a waste of time reading that was. Im stunned that you really felt that compelled to write that big long trip report just to ***** and complain about something that never was suppost to happen.

Get over it.

Its alright i have felt disappointment too in certain things.

For instance we have been to a few parks this year we have never been to.(meaning me and my mom) I have to say that Hydra at Dorney didnt do it for me. It took me six hours to get there and i didnt curse the ride to damnation. There are other rides, i assume you got ERT to, so maybe those were better. All i have to say is that one ride isnt gonna break the whole trip for me. I was upset also about Italian Job at Kings Island, but i happened to find that the Beast was much better to me this year than last, i was there the day of beastbuzz, but not a member yet, but i really thought it was so much better this year and worth reriding. I also found other gems in the park. There is more to Parks than just one ride. Thats how you get the WHOLE EXPERIENCE.

Resident Arrow Dynamics Whore

Wow: just freaking wow!!

I will continue to keep my enthusiast identity in "under-cover" mode as I have done for years. TR's like this make my decision the right one.

You were "ill" from this? You can't possibly be serious. Go find another hobby.

My favorite MJ tune: "Billie Jean" which I have been listening to alot now. RIP MJ.

I wouldn't ride any Chance Morgan Hyper Coaster if it were running brake free. They have had too many problems with their rolling stock. I'm sure that VF/CF took that into consideration when they decided to reduce the brakes on WT. I applaude CF for putting safety first. Thank You for reading.
I've long contended Roller Coaster people are one-dimensional cardboard cutouts in a three-dimensional world. See above post for proof.

Now you're gonna force me to title the only TR worth mentioning "Playa's Entourage(s) at VF's Coaster Craze: Now in 3D!"

NOTE: Severe fecal impaction may render the above words highly debatable.

Hey Blackie what kind of problems did Morgan have with their rolling stock besides the one on Steel Dragon?

It is a FACT that The Voyage is the greatest thing on the planet!!
I think some of you are confused about my apology. I did not mean to say I am sorry for thinking what I do. I don’t apologize for my thoughts to anyone. It just seemed that Jeff did not want negative things about parks (particularly after an enthusiast event) posted on his site, and I understand that desire, and I am willing to respect his wishes. There is not “another TR” that I could have posted in place of this one. I did not word it the wrong way (other than the wrong word usage that Jeff was kind enough to point out). That was my Coaster Craze experience. It was not a choice. That is just what happened. Regarding the expectations I had, yes I did have some. They were created through a series of events; not by some conscious choice. Yes, I could have consciously decided to distance myself from possible disappointment by choosing to ignore my expectations and replace it with more rational/conservative thought, but I don’t normally do that. Yes, I was probably more disappointed than most of you may have been, but if those brakes did open, I would have enjoyed it much more than you too. And yes, I know coasters are trivial in the grand scheme of things. Not much isn’t. If I have a handle on my values and life is really not your concern.

No, I write negative stuff about parks all of the time. What I don't do is rag on a park for inviting enthusiasts in as guests for rides above and beyond normal operating hours. It's lame and it's not good for the community.

Okay, Jeff, I get it. You are not going to get over this. You might be right that TR’s like this are not good for our community. Disagreements within our community that don’t end are not so good either. I already apologized to you three times and agreed to avoid similar actions in the future. If that is not good enough for you, I don’t know what is.
'Good enough' looks a little more like this.

Yes Mr. Playa, I read your “trip report”. Maybe I should go get a family like yours before I try to enjoy parks again. I could point a few Bible verses that you might have forgotten, but in my experience, Bible thumpers only like the verses that support their point of view. I must say however that you have honed the “negative personal critique” into a fine art. Congratulations. I guess I should not be too surprised about that though. You seem to get enough practice at it.
Practice? I don't need it...I can write.

But of course, the story's hardly about little, teensy you. It's about what these events actually center on...friends and family and good times together.

That story's so much bigger than yours that it's almost hard to pick a starting point. For crying out loud, I might actually have to split a story about one day at one park into multiple segments.

But yeah--we're basically bucketloads more fun to be around. Not just at VF, either. Anywhere. You should see what these two do with dinner...but those pics will stay in the vault for now.

Oh yeah, I forgot. You are so much better than me. You experiences are so much more important. You are much better looking and smarter too. Everything about you is so awesome. In fact, I must apologize for existing in your world. Thank you for making me realize this. I am going to turn over a new leaf. This weekend I probably should either start going to church again, or maybe I should just kill myself. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Raven,
I suggest you just be quiet.
Though I doubt you'll take my suggestion.
