Vertical Velocity's new supports and track arrive at Marine World

Posted | Contributed by Brian Grapes

A small update has been posted to SFMW Online that features 8 photos of the new track and supports that have arrived at Six Flags Marine World. They will be used for the new 45-degree spike of Vertical Velocity. It looks as if there will be a straight section of track at the end maybe so that people aren't in uncomfortable positions when the train stops and changes directions. Construction should have begun yesterday (after the photos were taken).

Its good to see that the track has finally arrived, Hopefully construction moves quick I want to see what this will look like.

Good!!! I'm glad to see they addressed the issue of the train stalling mid twist.

They should be able to get these pieces up in 1-2 days.

Yeah, especially since they took the front spike down in one day during a storm.

Why can't they re-use the old spiral spike, albeit at 45 degrees? Unless the length of the spiral itself has been shortened.

I doubt they'd just sell the track on ebay. Sooner or later another impulse will be built & they'd probably just use this spiral track, since it's already payed for.

I fail to understand wut they are doing to V2....are thay making the twist not vertical anmore more likeing shootin up and out while tiwsting? kind like this : I______/ ....the I is the vert spike and the slash is the spiral spike....is this what they are doin? If it is why are they doing this?

No Limits is every enthusiasts best friend! :)

I still don't understand why the heck they're doing this to V2, I thought it was a great ride in its original state. Is it just because of the height limit that they had to deal with?

pki-goer

Thats exactly what they are doing. The only reason i can think of why they would do this is because, its never been done before. I have no clue though. All I know is that, this is gonna be one cool zero-g roll.

Somedays it's just not worth chewing through the restraints.

It looks like they're going to make the June opening date! :) Oh shoot, I probably just jinxed it.

You can't spell my hometown's name with out "Lame"! aLAMEda...:) He...he...I have the feeling I'm the only one laughing...I guess you had to be there...

They are doing this because the city of Valljeo has a strict hight requirments for SFMW, and the front of the park is 150' the highest anywere in the park. V2 was 185, so they have shortend the back spike, and fixing the back brake, and the new spike will be 150, and be at a 45 degree angle right over the ticket plaza.
