Valleyfair's 2001 Plans

Posted | Contributed by RandyHutchinson

I recently spoke with Valleyfair marketing about their plans for 2001 and I was told that Cedar Fair hasn't told them what they are getting yet for next year. She went on to explain that the date on which capital plans are announced coincide with the size of the project. For example Power Tower at Valleyfair was announced in June of '99, and since coasters are generally announced by early August at the latest she said Valleyfair will most likely NOT be getting a coaster for 2001.

As a publicly traded company, I wouldn't be surprised if announcements were also influenced by stock prices and the release of financial performance.

I dont think there is a pattern. Magnum was anounced the first week in August 1988. Mantis was anounced the first week of September. Millennium Force was announced in July. Raptor was announced after labor day.
Well to tell you the truth, I think the only CF:LP that will be getting a coaster next year will be Dorney.

CP-3 flat rides [Boardwalk]
WOF-flat ride
VF-flat ride
KBF-flat ride [if anything]
DP-inverted coaster

I think that the "DP inverter" is the start of the next "three-some". Ala Wildthing, Steel Force, Mamba.

You know I really like the name "Terrordactyl"
Dustijn
Terrordactyl isn't the official name yet, it was a proposed name, among others.

Cedar Fair is easily #1
I still think things look good for the WOF woodie.
I still think that a coaster can be announced after August and September.

I thought I saw it somewhere that attendance was down at all parks except the Point.

Jeff has a good point, though on his stock price idea.
I checked on Valleyfair's attendance this year in comparison to last and it was actually slightly higher. I'm guessing this is due to the fact that Power Tower was added this year, and the two previous years nothing major was added.
