Valleyfair '06 - rumor, take it or leave it

Ok, well I've been to the park and seen the plans, Valleyfair is getting a double installation Screaming Swing for '06. Each side will have 20 seats, 10 facing each direction, for a total capacity of 40 people. Because of the increased capacity, this will not be an upcharge attraction.

With the addition of this ride, another ride is being removed. The swing will take the place of the Northern Lights which will be permanently removed from the park following maintenence issues it's had in the past couple years.

Obviously, other than what I have just typed, I have no actual proof that I can post to this board so don't bother to ask.

Anyways, it should make a nice addition, though I'm sad to see Northern Lights go.

Also, talk of moving the waterpark has died down but not gone away. So far, there are no concrete plans for the '07 season so anyone that tells you otherwise is making it up.

Nice. That sounds awsome. I completely believe you. If this is the same Drewbie from other sites, then you seem to always be right on these things.

I'm not quite sure why they show you this, but I believe you none the less.

I sort of believe it too. Not sure why. Anyway, Northern Lights runs crappy programs and half the time they reject single riders and there is a Chance Falling Star at MOA so I won't really miss it. A screaming swing that is not an upcharge will probably be very cool.
I thought the only parks that were getting a Screamin Swing were Kennywood and Lake Compounce. And those are the biggest models they make and that is 32 seats. They don't make a 40 seater as far as I know. I could be wrong.

Oooh, a Screaming Swing at VF would be an excellent addition to the park. I'd hate to see a Northern Lights dissapear, but thankfully many other Midwestern parks still have their own variations of Falling Stars/Northern Lights.

I assume you are the same Drew I've seen elsewhere, and if so, I'd be the first to likely believe you.

Like there isn't one at the Mall (falling star).

This sounds like a good investment for the park, and I wonder if any other parks in the chain will get one as well.

Ours at Camp Snoopy is much better than VF's anyways :) . Ours is newer, and protected from the elements, so it goes both directions, and much faster than VF's. I wont miss it if it is really leaving.

This seems like a great idea that could come true but I don't think that Cedar Far has the best relation with S&S after Vertigo tipped over a few years ago..
Um, Knott's got a Screamin Swing this year, as well as Dorney. Hey, that Screamin Swing thing is made by S&S, and Cedar Fair bought 2 this year!

Honestly, those things (Screamin' Swings) are everywhere already...the Falling Star is the rare item, LOL!

....and a well-run Fallig Star can be a thing of beauty...

...and Cedar Fair's relationship with S&S looks fine....forces me to wonder, LOL...IF Cedar Fair were looking for a woodie for *any* of their parks...who WOULD they go to? ;)

I also thought the *biggest* of the SSs was 32 peeps....hmmm...

I'll let ya know what I think of ValleyFair....soon... :)

You still have Zoidberg.... You ALL have Zoidberg! (V) (;,,;) (V)

Just to answer a couple questions:

Yes, I'm the Drewbie you've seen before talking about VF. So far the only thing I've been wrong in predicting for them was the moving of the waterpark to being a second gate over by the employee dorms. The only reason I was wrong on that was because management changed their minds/didn't have the money.

Anyways, they signed the deal for the Screaming Swing last year while Northern Lights was on the fritz all the time. They had 2 years of lots of maintenence costs before this years flawless operation, but the papers were already signed so it's moving on.

As far as the capacity questions, the plans I saw had 4 seperate towers, so basically 2 rides that ran independantly and just happened to be sitting next to each other. So basically you've got a 20 person ride sitting next to a 20 person ride rather than one single 40 person one. Ups capacity in the same way power tower does I suppose.

It says right here that they do make 40 seaters. http://www.flatrides.com/Ride%20Index%20Pages/screaminswing.html

I can't wait to get out there next year and ride this thing.

i'm not sure what to put here..

Then you will love it when you and Tina come to town in August, I love the Falling Star at Adventureland.

Let's shoot us some deer Joe Joe!!!!

Northern Lights is now gone so I guess this rumor is true after all.
By Labor Day weekend, it had been spray-painted with stencils for re-assembly ease and the 'star' was already on the ground.

I think I downloaded those from my cam along with the more interesting kids' pics. I might post 'em if I find time.

Bah. Valleyfair will be getting a B&M inverted coaster, just you watch. It will have four inversions, a cool-as-hell paint job and people will complain non-stop.
Damn straight--B&M stands for Boring and Mundane. Why can't we get another Intamin?
If you're talking a Thorpe Park Colossus clone, YEAH. Otherwise, I'm not so sure.

B&M stands for Boring and mundane? At CF parks, maybe. But let's face it--it would go over HUGE with the GP. VF's only looping coaster is still an Arrow Corkscrew!

I'm about 85% certain it's gonna be the site of a new flat ride...but i'll admit could just as soon be an element of a custom B&M with a lift hill that starts where the ampitheater stands now.

On the other hand, an 'interactive' B&M coaster element could just as soon stand where Supercat stands now. I'm betting on a flat ride on the site.

Anyone else been seen the site this weekend?

CF bought 2 one for CP and 1 for Valley Fair. the same time Kennywood bought their 2.
I went to VF last weekend.

There are two big square holes about 6-10 feet from eachother. Then a large rectangular hole above those two. The two square holes are pretty big, probably 8-10 feet by 8-10 feet.
