When I first went on V2, waiting in line I always thought that the people kept on screaming every single launch. I found this quite odd since after I had ridden it I didnt scream until later. Now I think the noises are the LIMs. Has anybody else heard these?
When I went on S:UE this June, i noticed that. Waaaay too many people would have to scream at exactly the right time for that to be screaming. It was kinda annoying, which probably prevented it from making it into my top 10 coasters.
Those are the LIM's, you can here them on the back spike too. I too was fooled the first time and thought it was people screaming. Well of course they're are people screaming but the main noise is the LIM's themselves.
After awhile you just gt used to it, while people are holdeing their ears closed you day dreaming on what coaster will be the biggest, and fastest. Also for some odd reason i never thoght it was people screaming. ----------------- The worlds a rollercoaster And I’m not strapped in Maybe I should hold with care, but My hands are busy in the air- incubus
I never noticed it and if I did notice it I must not have thought it was annoying. ----------------- STAND BACK, THERES A HURRICANE COMING THROUGH! My Top 5 Coasters: 1. Raging Bull 2.Millenium Force 3. V2 (SFGAm) 4. Viper (SFGAm) 5. Cornball Express /Raptor

What is that loud screeching sound you here as S:UE and V2 come to a stop in the station? I thought it was sound effects on S:UE, but later learned that V2 at SFMW did the same thing. ----------------- "This time I think ... I think it's ... it's going to work!" - Dr.Bruce Banner

Its the wheels trying to catch up with the launch of the train. Just like a car screaches when someone accellerates to fast. Lims dont make a screech. But its the wheels trying to catch up with the speed of the train.

OK lets settle this once and for all....THe LIMs on V2 and all the clones DO make noise....they make a LOT of noise. They LIMs on the back spike make a noise when they hold the train for a moment, if you pay attention. It has NOTHING to do with the 'wheels' catching up with the 'train'...that is about the funniest thing I've ever heard. Those wheels roll, and they do NOT skid. It is the LIMs, and that is why you also hear that 'grinding' noise when the train comes to a stop. AND, just to prove to you I"m right, go to the park sometime...when you are the next people to get on...listen for the LIM noise. You hear is on the launch, you hear it going backwards, forwards, backwards again, BUT you don't hear it on the last time forwards because they aren't needed as the train is being slowed for the final stop. IT IS THE LIMs. :-)

The noise prevents you from liking the coaster? That's, um, ok, whatever. I find the scream of LIM's/LSM's very cool. It wouldn't be the same if there was no noise. I'll never forget my first ride on Flight of Fear, my first launch. What a rush! ----------------- Jeff - Webmaster/Admin - CoasterBuzz.com "From the global village... in the age of communication!"
