I'm sorry, but if you're ignorant enough to bring a hat on a coaster that speeds you through the air in excess of 40 MPH, you deserve to be without your hat when it blows off your head.

My brother was ignorant enough to wear a hat on Blue Streak at CP, and it blew off. He was upset that he lost his hat, it was a nice hat. But he laughed about it when he got off the ride. Didn't ask anyone to retrieve it, his loss.

He was embarrassed the rest of his day though. He was deep into chemo therapy and had no hair. He looked like Dr. Evil without his hat on.

I guess it was ignorant of him to wear his hat to CP.....

That's terrible. My thoughts are with his family and friends.
This is a very sad update.

best wishes to his friends and family.

Not to be an ass or anything, but I think they sell hats at the Pagoda Gift Shop, and in Frontiertown. I am sympathetic to the chemo, but when a loose article takes off, well we who do this know the outcomes sometime.

We return the hats the next morning to Guest Services, then mail them if the information is available on the lost and found report. People even get back broken cell phones, but they are happy we tried. I guess Cedar Point is too busy to take a few minutes out of their day.

Emily, I didn't suggest anyone was ignorant to bring a hat to an amusement park, I suggested that someone was ignorant for wearing their hat on a fast-moving rooler coaster. Common sense dictates that it will likely blow off the rider's head.

he was my best friend i wont forget that day at work. it was horrible everyone that loved him cried.when he died i lost a part of me. he was like a big brother to me. always there for me. i just wish that person didnt insits for stan to get the hat. ohh how i wish i could take back time. just to say goodbye at least to seee him....

^ My condonaces for you loss. I hope his death reminds others to be more careful.

Coaster Junkie from NH
I drive in & out of Boston, so I ride coasters to relax!

On my last trip to BG Tampa a guy's hat blew off while he was riding Scorpion and went under a low section of track. I was about 1 train away from riding and got to witness this guy become a complete ass about his hat. He was climbing over the queue, kept pointing, interrupting the ops, and at one point acted like he was going to go in after it himself. Finally, exasperated, the ops called maintenance who shut down the ride, locked the booth, and sent the ops completely off the platform before finally retrieving the hat.

You guessed it, not so much as a thank you from the guy who just walked away examining his precious hat for damage. Then the rest of us got to stand by while maintenance set the ride back up, complete with test runs. I was hoping to run into the guy later - I had plans to snatch his hat and run.

Poor Stan, who from what arielle reports, probably met this same guy and was trying his best to be accomodating. Perhaps the fact that he was from Bulgaria contributed to his lack of judgement, and by that I mean the language barrier alone might've been enough for him not to have a complete understanding of procedure. If they even have procedures there in Seaside Heights - who knows?

Anyway, very tragic, and I'm always sorry anytime I hear about something senseless like this happening.
