According to a spokesperson with Kings Island, a guest entered a restricted area around the Banshee roller coaster around 8 p.m. and was struck by the ride. Police say he was transported to a hospital, and then flown to another.

UPDATE: The man, Arntanaro Nelson, 38, of Wilmington, Ohio, died Friday in the hospital. Read more from WLWT/Cincinatti.
Im guessing the guy got impatient and didn’t feel like waiting until park close to get his wallet or car keys?
I once lost my car keys on Batman at Six Flags Arlington and had to wait approx 5-6 hours for park closure for maintenance to go in there and retrieve them.
I feel for the guy, despite his poor choices. Also, what is often not discussed, is that people rarely get hit by an empty train. Folks on the ride get to see his happen and are completely helpless.
In some instances, a riders foot is what makes contact with the person on the ground because it's the closest thing to them.
Sad, not to mention, completely unnecessary.
Nothing to see here. Move along.
I feel for the people in the front row of the train. And those kids. And whoever cared about this guy. And the workers at the ride, and the first responders.
I can feel for the 16-year old with an underdeveloped brain who goes back for his hat. When you're 40 years old, you get the prizes you played for.
Promoter of fog.
Inverted coaster hit a guy standing on the ground. How would this not involve a rider, and a rider's injury? Am I missing something here?
We were riding the front row of the Banshee the day before. Could have just as easily been us. Way to mess with your day at the park. I don't like Cedar Fair taking away more bins along the ride to drop off your stuff. Lockers aren't always the answer.
RC Madness:
Lockers aren't always the answer.
Why isn't a locker an answer to this situation? I have never had anything that I have stored in a locker fall off of a ride, and I would bet that if the guy put his keys in a locker that they would not have fallen out of his pocket.

Because there will always be stupid people like me who would forget about a locker or wear baggy shorts with no zipper on a ride. 😝
My question is why isn't there an interlock on the gate that was found "open" that would have fail safe the ride.
...and there is a limit to how far one must go to prevent people from doing a thing that the VAST majority of the population understands is stupid.
German traveling fairs operate with no barrier between the ride and the riders.
Kings Island had multiple barriers between the ride and that rider.
Just let that level of stupidity sink in for a moment.
Some alleged family members have said he passed away. Can’t verify at this time, but that’s what I saw on FB. I feel for the family, especially the two kids he had with him that night. Yes, what he did was so incredibly stupid, but he has people who are going to miss him very much. This has to be traumatic and heartbreaking for them.
Clearly I wasnt there so I dont have all the details, but I am a bit curious about one thing....If this gentleman had just ridden Banshee, then he would have no doubt heard the Banshee cry. That cry can be heard a good 100' from the ride itself and I imagine the sound can for sure be heard on the ground beneath the drop. I would kind of figure that if he heard that scream followed by the B&M roar, would he have dropped flat on the ground ? Just wondering.
