I like to tinker with my own coaster ideas. My latest is a combination Spaceshot flying coaster. A coaster with two car trains, each carrying 6 to 8 passengers are shot up a vertical tower to an upside down tophat. They then spiral head first toward the ground and level out into a steep upward hill with an inline twist at the top. that is followed by 3 coaster like hills while suspended blow the track, and then up into a superman-like half loop that sends the passengers on their backs toward the station which feature a pitch back tunnel with two barrel rolls inside, followed by a third into the brakes.
Loading would be similar to Geauga Lake's x-Flight, and the trains would be slowly lifted into the vertical position before being shot up into the tophat element. Or, to make it even more unique, each car has the ability to roll like on X. Which would make it even more thrilling. The cars would enter the tophat and remain upright as they spiral down toward the major hill and inline twist, and roll freely up and down the speed hills into the half-loop. Or Each train could be stationary or roll and offer a queue line for each. Does that sound like fun?
My name for it. Vertical Insanity!
I forgot to mention the best part about this ride it it would take up very little ground space, as it's layout would be similar to Wicked Twister. Straight up, straight out, and straight back. Might throw in a vertical loop or two to make the ride longer, but the rides footprint would be long and narrow.
I didn't do it! I swear!!

blow the track
The way some enthusiasts talk about coasters, I wouldn't put it past them...
Thanks for that blast from the past, Bird. I still find that hilarious and disturbing!

What you describe is not fundamentally different from Vekoma's Stingray except for layout and the initial launch.

Not sure what happened to my post.
At any rate, the Vekoma Stingray coaster is very similar to what I had in mind. I have never seen a coaster like that before. I can only guess that this coaster is launched from the station?
In my version the train would leave the station and move into a section of vertical track, where it would wait until it's launched upward, sort of similar to Demon drops lift, only either using cables or a magnetic launch. Also the first drop would be vertical with a downward twist, so that the train ends up on top of the track at the bottom of the drop before going up the second hill with another upward twist until the train is under the track again.
Also, my version would have no turns. Only using a half loop to send the trains back to the station. It could also use block brakes at the end of the ride, and allow for two stops in the station. One for loading and one for unloading, to allow for more trains on the track at one time to increase capactity. One preparing to launch and two in the station.
I wonder if Vekoma would be interested in my idea. Also, you guys crack me up. I like the roller coaster tycoon jab. But, it doesn't look too intense for me. And, if it was at Michigan's Adventure, the line would be huge! LOL!
Also, I looked at More of the photos of the Vekoma Stingray coaster, and it looks like it would be rough as hell. It's also kinda short. My version would be a lot longer ride.

Redundant. Vekoma=rough as hell.

She only loves the ride because it's at Knoebels. If it were at a Six Flags park she'd be complaining about its capacity.
;)
We're not allowed to make that joke anymore.
One would think Knoebels would have some sort of rules banning people from wandering in their park and humping their rides.

Yeah, I might skip that one next time I'm there. Granted, I don't know which--if any--other rides have been violated (sorry, I mean "in a physical relationship with some perfectly normal human being"), but what I don't know won't hurt me. Hopefully the Flyers tub I pick will not have been loved up on.

"We". lol We, as in implying that I made up some kind of rule that the rest of CoasterBuzz must follow? HAHAHAHA!
The comment was so small, yet implied so much.
I now give permission for everyone on this wonderful CoasterBuzz website to make jokes about and discuss the issue of how low capacity does or does not affect the wait time. (Waves magic glitter wand over iMac).
The curse is lifted. The angels sing. Color once again envelops this once dreary website.
And now, Lost Kause, a.k.a. The Wicked Witch, will once again speak of things that the heroic Tek does not want to hear. Annoying him is his kryptonite. Will he survive?
Seriously though, it is easier to except differences in opinion than it is to argue about them. My hand is held out to shake any time.
