Universal theme park ownership and future may be uncertain

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Insiders at the Universal theme parks think anything could happen with the acquisition by NBC, including a sale, a spin-off, or nothing at all. The uncertainty, however, could hamper further development.

I didn't realize the Vivendi only had a 50% stake in the parks.

Well, I was going to start a whole new thread, but hey, I prefer to use existing ones where possible. Bronfman was on Fox News doing an exclusive interview the other night, and there was discussion about his involvement with the whole media conglomeration that runs the above trio of parks...

I was NOT surprised when he said he didn't wat a back-seat role in the new organization, but WAS pleasantly surprised to hear him say he "very well might be interested" if there was a possibility of purchasing the theme parks as a separate company....:). Don't know what it is specifically, but every time I see that guy I like his style....

You know, in many ways I think it's a miracle that IOA was ever built, not to mention the huge complex that property has become. I went the month it opened in 1990 and didn't get back there until 2001. I was absolutely shocked. With the ownership changes, it's a miracle to me that it has not only survived, but thrived.
