Universal Studios set for US, overseas expansion

Universal Studios plans to build new attractions at both US parks based on the popular Shrek and Jimmy Neutron properties. Following a 69% jump in cash flow for the first quarter, in part due to expectation busting attendance at the Hollywood and Japanese parks, Vivendi (Universal's parent company) is looking for new markets to build new parks overseas.

Read more from the LA Times.

The Tampa Tribune reported that the Shrek attraction would go in the old Hitchcock building, and that the Jimmy Neutron attraction would go in the old cartoon motion simulator building. If this is true, and if the Studios are opening just 2 attractions, that must mean that the coaster rumored to go in the Kong building is 'out.'

I'm surprised they ditched the Hitchcock thing. I remember seeing it the month the park opened, and I remember people really enjoyed it and talked about it for years after.

I was actually drafted to be in the shower sequence shoot.. it was pretty fun. Me in a dress.. that will never happen again :)

There is still a building going up between MIB and BTTF. I would look for the 2004 attraction to go there.

"Hitch" will never get dated. Kong, OTOH, was dated ten years ago....

Hitchcock cannot die! That thing is great! 3-D BIRDS!!!!

It's a classic, you can't kill it. Get rid of Kong....it's boring.

I loved the Hitchcock thing! I love Kong to, and all the rides there! I hope none of them go.

800,000 years in 7 seconds: Time Machine the movie or next S&S creation?

Me and a buddy of mine were in the reenactment of the Statue of Liberty scene from Vertigo. I loved that whole attraction too

"Well, I wouldn't say I've been MISSING it, Bob."

Okay....it's nice that Hollywood is FINALLY getting something new, but where is MIB? That ride needs to be brought to the Hollywood park more then Shrek or anything else for that matter. I'm kind of baffled why this isn't being done. I haven't been to the Hollywood park in years and years..before JP was put in. I've been to USF twice in that time! And I know quite a few people who haven't been in a long time either. MIB is an attraction that would finally get me back in the gates of the Hollywood park again. Shrek...ah, no. Sorry. That won't do it.

jdancisin - I believe that Statue of Liberty scene is from "Provocateur" and not "Vertigo" [which took place in San Francisco and surrounding areas].

Coasterbuf - I agree about USH. They already have T2, why another 3D movie w/ Shrek? I haven't been in years either but its gonna take more than MIB to bring me back.

Don't forget "Operation Graduation" June 1st @ SRM - bring Pat Koch a graduation card! See Coasterbuzz News for details.

It's about time that Universal Studios Hollywood gets something new. But I don't think Jimmy Neutron will erge me to go to Universal Hollywood anymore then I do know.

Though I am glad to see new attractions at USF, I am still pretty disapointed that they both will be "Motion Sims". Where's the REAL rides, Universal? Spend some real money (we all know that you've got it) and build us some REAL rides. Shrek is too cool of a character to put in a Sim.
