Universal Studio's Question

Kick The Sky's avatar
I have a question that is not coaster related but it is park related.  I have heard rumors that Kongfrontation was going to close soon(I heard the rumor of Feb 14).  I was wondering if there is any fact to that rumor or not and if so, if the target date is in the next few weeks.  My wife loves this ride and is crossing her fingers that it will still be there when we go down in a week.

Cheers,

Formaly Inverted of Danimation
Yes it is true. I heard they were going to put either some kind of rollercoaster or simulater ride in its place.....but i forgot what movie there going to name it after.
Kong is a classic.  I'm glad I got to ride it last december if it does go.
I have heard this rumor and saw an article in the local newspaper when I was down there in December.  Apparently, Universal wants to install some type of rollercoaster in the existing building.

As far as the Kong ride, I am sure that it will be running for awhile until they make a formal announcement.  I was at Universal Studios two weeks ago and it was open then.

Although it is a classic, I guess the ride's popularity has declined over the years, so it is time for something new.

I heard that they were planning an Apollo 13 themed rollercoaster, it also had some pics. Does anyone know where they were?

"Kong" as in King Kong on the tram ride?
yes arrowfreak and my *source* said that the mummy ride will be added in there, if im not mistaken i heard that people said it would work well in that existing building.

I think Apollo 13 is done for. That is what MIB evolved from. I'm pretty sure the coaser will be themed to the The Mummy. Here is the link to the Universal Coaster they have a patent on.

I believe DisneyQwest has these roller coaster simulators.

This may be unrelated, but I find some patents pretty funny like the "patentend release volve" (AKA, a hole) mentioned on those air mattress commercials...

I'll go on Sunday and report back any findings...presently, there's a Season Passholders Lounge next to Kong according to the mailing I got.  I'll do some reconnaissance (spelling's not NORMALLY a problem for me, LOL) and figure out what I can from what they WILL say.  I rarely make short posts, so you can expect me to give you both what they actually SAY and my thoughts/observations.  The Apollo13 thing is, AFAIK, still only rumor although certainly wide-spread around the area...I don't THINK that MIB necessarily took it's place, and really see the Universal complex as merging a la SFWoA sometime in the next 3-5 years IF they really put a "real" coaster in at USF...although I have to admit I'll likely take a spin on Woody Woodpecker, hahahaha....

DisneyQuest does have simulators, but i dont think thats what the patent is describing.

The Disney quest things are completly different from the Universal Coaster patents. That patent is for a real roller coaster and there is a layout in the section with the pics.
