Universal Studios Hollywood drops residential plans

NBCUniversal has killed a controversial proposal to build 3,000 homes on its property, officials announced Monday. Instead, it wants to beef up its movie and TV studios and theme park as part of a $1.6 billion long-term makeover.

I wonder what took so long to decide/announce this? Seemed like a non-starter originally, let alone after the real estate crash.

If USH needed 3,000 homes on their property, they'd already be there.

Jan,mi figure it took this long because before they didn't have plans for HP west, which could make a reason to expand the park further later.
