Universal Studios Florida opens an AmEx lounge

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

The American Express Lounge is scheduled to open within the Universal Studios theme park on Tuesday, May 10. The area will be open to guests who purchase a multi-park ticket or annual pass with an American Express Card at the front gate of the park or at UniversalOrlando.com.

This qualifies as one of the strangest credit card perks I've seen. If I didn't have a corporate card, I'd probably never get an American Express myself because of the annual fee.

Their higher-fee cards are surprisingly decent in terms of value for the cost, provided you do a lot of travel. But, it's a set-of-conveniences thing more than a saving-money sort of thing.

Hmmm. Could we see more credit card specific perks happening at parks. Last year (not sure about this year) Six Flags did 5% off anything purchased with a Discover card. Now Universal offers this.

I like perks. :)

Still on for '11.

Target does this as well, if you use their store-related cards, you get 5% off your whole purchase. Lowe's just jumped on the bandwagon, too. I'm sure we'll see it at more stores in the future.

My amex card has no annual fee, and is my preferred credit card for technology purchases... I really dig the extension on warranty and such. I am too cheap to have an annual fee or one of their perk cards!

I guess I actually do have one of their "Blue" cards, but I haven't used it since I transferred a balance there at 0% and paid it off in a few months... about five years ago. I'm kind of curious if those would "count" for this particular perk. I guess I don't see why not, but the whole "membership has its privileges" thing kind of implies that you had to pay to be in the club.

Yeah, that is the card I have as well... I got it when they offered me 15 month 0% APR. I have really enjoyed it though, great customer service and very easy online banking. Not all my cards are as nice, sadly!

I'm kind of a Citi whore. They keep offering new cards at 0%, so I just get the new one then cancel the old one. Granted, I rarely keep a balance anymore because I've tried to change my ways, but in the event of an expensive impulse buy, I'm good to go.

Discover also has a specific line at the entrance (ticket takers and metal detectors) to SFoT.

^I've used the Discover entrance at SFStL (I think that was last year on the Knievel stop of the HWN trip)...and I think GAdv (maybe SFA?)
