Universal Orlando releases more on new Harry Potter attraction, does not set opening date

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

The signature ride at Universal Orlando's new Diagon Alley will have big vehicles that can whisk 12 people through a Harry Potter story featuring villains, dragons and goblins, a Universal executive said Monday. One goal for the new Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts ride was to allow "the whole family to be able to experience this," said Thierry Coup, senior vice president of Universal Creative Studios.

I'm booking my flight right now.

And if it doesn't work out, just remember to tell the airline you came down with malaria, so you can get your money back.

Universal has been open for what? Like 5 months already this year. This attraction still not being open is unacceptable.

It's not their fault. It's all of the snow they got in Florida this winter.

Yes, you'd want to get there quick. After all, it'll operate for no more than four days* before closing down permanently.

Mike, just don't expect any sympathy from Josh. His bucket is still empty.

Anyone notice that Coup uses the phrase "later this summer" to describe when guests can experience the attraction.

Is this carefully worded language, written months ago, or is this the first attempt at walking back the opening date?

I think it sounds rather intentionally non-committal...

^From the same company the promised RRR in the "Spring" and opened it in July I believe too. This is why I havent booked a trip down there yet, and will probably wait until next year to do so. It will be finished when its finished...

Damn right. :)

I was lucky enough to attend during Technical Rehearsals for WWoHP, which started about the beginning of June in 2010 and if the Jun 20 date for London is to be, then TRs should begin within a few weeks now. The fact that there's not even a whisper of such yet out of the cast/nerd community makes me think they are behind.

But this sort of thing only happens at Six Flags!

Media preview days are June 17-20, for what it's worth.

There is NO GOOD REASON THIS SHOULDN'T BE OPEN ON OPENING DAY!

Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

This is why I don't bother with these big chain parks. Got my flight to Indiana all booked. Can't wait to ride Giraffica!

Hi

I'll never go to another Universal media day again. They wouldn't let me wear what I wanted, all the other rides were closed, and they didn't give me enough free s**t.

Hmmm.

As a group, we really are a bunch of assholes.
