Universal Orlando extends closure as Orange County issues stay-at-home order

The plan for Walt Disney World, Universal and the rest to reopen parks on April 1 was dashed on Tuesday as Universal announced that Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort and CityWalk attractions will extend its closures to April 19 in response to growing restrictions to fight the coronavirus pandemic.

Orange County, Florida, also announced a stay-at-home order to begin Thursday and last at least two weeks. About two-thirds of Walt Disney World are in Orange County, as well as all of the Universal properties and SeaWorld Orlando.

I'm surprised that Disney has not also (publicly) extended their closure. It's not like they can operate before the 4th, and it probably will be longer than that. I can't figure out what they are gaining by not saying it out loud.

given what I'm going through with my company and its employees in a BLUE state that has gotten ahead of labor & unemployment issues, I'm going to guess it's the fact of having a Republican Florida Governor, who's tight with Trump,.

At some point state Unemployment, furlough and lay-off issues come into play. While I'm not up to date on Red Florida's statements and proclamations so far, I'd be willing to guess that has something to do with it. States that have been proactive in addressing those issues have allowed companies to enact closures farther out in time.

Trying to apply for unemployment is of course impossible in Florida. Urban leaders, the mayors, are stepping up. DeSantis is as useless as his predecessors.

Disneyland and Disneyworld closed indefinitely. Universal extended its closure to April 19th.

Disney is smart not trying to set a date. There's no point. They don't know the right time.
