Universal issuing patent for new ride???

First off, the patent application was FILED in 1999. The patent did not ISSUE until this year.

Second, the CLAIMED invention doesnt seem like a whole lot. Just because it is called a "roller coaster", it seems a lot like any of the Disney "People Mover" rides (e.g Haunted Mansion, SpaceShip Earth).

Third, it appears to be an integration of motion sim film and actual movement. For example, imagine watching a sim film where you fall into the Grand Canyon. Instead of moving about three feet as in most sims, you really *do* fall 100ft or so. It's an "interesting" idea, but I think that people would rather see real topography or nothing at all (e.g. FoF) rather than some film/3-D model. I think Universal agreed as this idea has yet to come to fruition.
