Ultramix on Xbox... got it!

Steph and I bounced in to EB today to pick up the latest Neverwinter Nights expansion, and I just happened to notice they had a PS2 to Xbox control converter and one copy of Ultramix.

What do you know, the converter worked for my cheap Chinese import "ignition" knock-off pads.

This mix isn't bad, though the "new" songs are kind of mediocre. Max2 on PS2 was definitely a little better. I really think that the promise in this version is the online play, which I'm really looking forward to after I have the songs mostly-beat.

Most interesting is that because score saving is nearly instant to the hard drive, there is no "game" per se; you can play until you pass out.

SO the score saving thing is like workout mode in MAX2; play as many rounds as you want until you get to your 'goal'?

Also, whats Neverwinter Nights?

There are only 10 types of people in the world - those who understand binary and those who dont.

The only actual goal in game mode is to get the highest score you can, really.

Neverwinter Nights is an RPG based on D&D I think. Steph played the original and first two expansions. It's also the game engine that the newer Star Wars Knights of The Old Republic is based on.

I received Ultramix for Christmas, and so far, I really enjoy it (I got the game with the Konami dance pad).

Let me state up front that before I got Ultramix, I'd never even played DDR. I've watched plenty of people, but never got the nerve to try it out myself.

Well, just by watching others, I knew DDR was difficult, but I never appreciated just how difficult until I started playing. Wow. I must of tried some of the easy songs 10 times before I even passed them once. I've gotten pretty decent at the easier songs ('Keep Your Body Movin' is my best song so far, which I know isn't saying much :) ). I've only played on the "Light" difficulty, so I can imagine what a struggle the other two difficulty levels are going to be. My wife enjoys playing it too, although the learning curve seems to be a little rougher for her than it has been for me.

I'm going to test the online waters in a few days, after I get some more practice. Maybe I'll see some fellow Buzzers online, and we can play head-to-head. (My gamer tag is "Outlane").

One question: I thought their was supposed to be a song by the Crystal Method on Ultramix. Is this one of the "unlockable" songs? So far, It's not showing up as a playable song.

Pinball and Coasters...Any Questions?
I don't have an XBox, but I've read a little about Ultramix. The unlocks are a little different than the Playstation versions... you actually have to complete certain tasks to get them, instead of just playing a certain number of songs. For example, if you get an A on all the difficulty levels of "Sana Mollete Ne Ente," you get the remix of that song.

How is the Challenge Mode? I heard it gives you some pretty ridiculous things to do... like complete a song without getting more than a 9 combo, or complete a song without stepping on the left arrow, or jumping the whole time.

Also - how is the Absolute "cuff 'n stuff" mix? I hope they didn't put a rap into it. Absolute is one of my favorite DDR songs... and rap doesn't really mix with bagpipe if you ask me. :)

What a minute Jeff I thought you didn't like X-box.

I remember a post a little while ago about RCT coming to X-box and you sttd you would never own a X-box. what happened?

You know...

I recently got DDR Max for X-Box right before Christmas with the official Konami dance pad.

I was a little skeptical at first because I never ever ever did the DDR thing, and I really wanted to try to get into it...
...and man, as soon as I tried it I thought "daaaaaammmnn... how in the hell can anyone do the easy perfect, let alone the insane settings?!?"

It's a great game, don't get me wrong, but for a n00b like me to this genre, it's as tough as nails. I guess you really gotta learn to step & dance instead of just hitting the arrows with your feet. It sure gave me a work-out and I like the fact you can choose the work-out mode.

I don't know how it compares to other DDR's on the PS2 or even the arcade, but I think the on-line feature is a sweet deal.
Im just not sure how you can do it with the control pad of you have to hit left & right at the same time. Is that done with both analog sticks? I'd like to try it on-line, but I think there'd be a lot of cheaters out there using the controller and not the pad.

Uh, I got an Xbox the week it came out (I have all three current consoles and a GB Advance SP). I never said that. I said I'd never buy RCT on the Xbox.

I haven't messed with challenge mode. Yeah, the unlocks are pretty crazy. Here's the list and how to beat them. I can tell you right now that I don't forsee doing some of those anytime soon.

The Crystal Method has "Busy Child" on the PS2 Max2 mix.
