Top gun has the right idea, but the ride is entirely to short. Ya miss it if you sneeze. A park like PKI should have spent more money on the ride instead of all that themeing if they couldn'e afford to spend more. Plus you have to walk out a quarter mile or something just to get to it.
Do not skip Kennywood, allow two days at CP, and go to PKI. Skip either Carowinds or PKD or both if you need to. If you want to see the "real" world of amusement parks go to Knoebels. It is a great place.
And my two cents...
I think Top Gun is a fine coaster. It is to bad PKI was too cheap or didn't have the brains to make the ride really something. I have always thought that there is a world class coaster waiting to happen in the Arrow style suspended suspended. Top Gun with three or four lifts and 5000 or 6000 feet of track would have been an ass kicker.
what about sfo? you need to go to sfo. even if it was gl, i would HIGHLY recommend to go there. there is an atmosphere that is unexplainable to me. i know for a fact (laugh now)that sfo is better than all those parks in the list (except for cp and maybe bgw). the park is not entirely big so you wont have to do a lot of walking. i would hate to see you go to sfkk, pcw, or pkd instead of sfo. plan on a weekday. lines get up to an hour on some saturdays.
pki:i am going there on athurs this year w/ my church. havent been there for a long time. however, pki lacks that atmosphere i look for. when i leave places like sfo, cp, and bgw, i think of what an awesome day that just was. there is something that i feel that bi can't explain. i dont like that whole face/off and drop zone idea. it seems they just plopped that thing down wherever it would fit (like mind eraser at sfo). i personally think pki is just trying to get that most coasters in a park record. and i am sorry but, i really don't think the beast is all that cool. i rode it when i was 5 and wasn't scared at all.

Oops i missed a day yeah I was planing on hitting six flags ohio
Take my advice and SKIP PKI. Who would want to ride old worn out coasters like King Cobra and Vortex? OL Flight of Fear what a great take off, but what a neck breaker. Drop Zone is GREAT! Face Off is o.k. but too short and the line is long because it isn't a continuous loop coaster. The Beast is old but still a good ride. The red and blue racers..... what crummy coasters in my opinion. The only thing that saved the day at PKI was the water park. I'm not even going to ride Son of Beast because my opinion of the rest of the park is so bad. Also skip BGW. Apollos Chariot is pretty good. Alpengeist was good but felt jerky. Big Bad Wolf and Loch Ness Monster were rather crappy in my opinion... lame and boring. The park was beautiful with all of the flowers & landscaping. The shows were real good. SKIP THIS PARK if you are in the mood for coasters though. P.S. if any of the rest of you like these parks it is o. k. with me :) But I am not going back. Not even if I get a free day off of work and someone to drive me there ;)
Sorry Jeff, I don't like Top Gun either. But I hope everyone has a great time there on their next visit :)
Don't skip PKI... it has a nice selection of rides. I had a good time there last year.

Please man dont do it were beggin ya.(LOL);)
I just re-read this thread and would like to add some history about Top Gun. Top Gun was announced at Swoops or Swoosh (I don't remember) and that winter Kings Ent. Corp.(I think that was the name) was brought by Paramount and the ride was themed to Top Gun so you can see that PKI had nothing to do with the ride it was a KI ride descesion and probaly fit what KI could afford at the time.
I have ridden the ride, but it somehow no longer holds my interest. It's a great ride for beginners or anyone just wanting a mild ride to relax with. But come on, with all of the rides "kicking" out there, is this one that you really want to go on? :)
That makes sense, but Paramount obviously pitched in cash to change the name and theme it. Perhaps they would have been better off in doing something else with that money.
And while i don't care of PKI, or how they run the park; i would recommend it because the Beast can make up for it by itself (if it's running well that day). Also the OL is a nice coaster as well as Racer and Vortex. Besides SoB looks interesting.
Don't go two days at CP. If you're on a quest to see parks and different rides, the second day will be a "waste" as far as your trip is concerned. The second day would end up being mostly and overlap of the day before. If you stay focused for much of the day, ride smart, and keep moving, you can hit all 14 coasters (or at least all the important ones) and move onto another park. I never spend 2 days at CP. I admit that I go every year, but by 6 or 7 o'clock, I'm ready to head home.

It depend. If you go on a Saturday to CP you will only get to go on 8 or 9 coasters. On Saturdays the lines are over 1 hour long.
one halloweekend raptor, magnum, power tower, and mantis had one hour lines. all other coasters and rides were walk ons. i rode every coaster and no flat rides. i rode raptor 3 times, magnum 2 times, mantis 1 time, power tower 1 time each side, mean streak 9 times, and all other coasters once or twice. we also left the park for an hour and a half to eat at fridays. i went through all of the haunted houses too. if you go, go on a weekday. if you concentrate on coasters and not flat rides, you can easily do it in one day. you only need a day if you go on a weekday, believe me.

Thank you all again for your imput. You are helping me make this trip happen I have never been to any of these parks and your opinions are helping me and my family tremendously. Let me know how ya'll think about this plan.
(this is just the order of the parks)
Carowinds
BGW
PKD
Hershey Park
SFO
Cedar Point (maybe two days if weekend)
PKI
Dollywood or SFKK
Home
Has anyone been to dollywood and is it nicer than Kentucky Kingdom? (Another park wich i have heard nothing but bad things about)
if you have never rode steel phantom then you better go to kennywood cause its gone after this year.
Dollywood is small but it has 2 or 3 coasters.
