Ugly Coaster Stations

Chang. Eww. Just Eww. And that horrible air sound. Oh God. Ride's good though.

And although not even a coaster, the Top of the Tower at SFWhite Water where the tallest slide is , the surface they use is HOT.

I do love Jags' station, but with that, Mummy, and a few others that are really VERY dark as part of the theming, wondering if they shouldn't use SOME sort of recessed lighting so people don't end up falling and possibly getting hurt...esp. considering CA's litigious climate...

Of course, on the whole I'd rather discuss GREAT-looking stations...

Try getting through Jag's queue during Haunt when it is completely dark and stuff jumps out at you!

Certain victory.

Batman the Escape at Six Flags Astroworld (took me a while to think of one). It's indoors though, so I don't know if that counts. On the same page of indoor stations, I think two of the stations at Six Flags Over Texas have the Best stations. Those would be Batman the Ride, because of the par cans that shine different colors onto the track and trains, and Mr. Freeze. I really liked the crazy robot guy who overlooks the launch area. I seem to remember there being blue lighting used as well (I'll have to look that one up).

The Phoenix at Knoebels has a butt ugly station. Rusty columns and trusses exposed. From the outside it doesn't look that bad but on the inside blah.

The station's saving grace is the flywheel that spins right next to you as you wait for the front seat. Something about that loud thing spewing grease-tainted breezes symbolizes the classic wood coaster that is the Phoenix!

Im tossing in SFDL as my chocie. The Predator's "famous" wooden beam of gum. It seems to be the only spot anywhere in or on the ride station where people dispose of their chewing pleasantries. If you have been to the park and have gone through the que of the ride you'd know what spot I'm talking about(right at the bottom of the stairs). *** Edited 3/21/2005 3:04:14 AM UTC by SFDLdan***

Speaking of chewing gum, the "gum wall" on Conneaut's Devil's Den darkride is one of the ride's feature attractions! ;)
The Screechin Eagle station at Lesourdsville Lake is pretty ugly. Just the basics and nothing more. Kinda like Phoenix but without the cool flywheel or the view of the lifthill.

I agree, and would add that you get some decent views of the coaster (primarily the lift) while ascending the ramp to the loading platform. I enjoyed myself watching the trains emerging from the tunnel to grab the chain.

IMO, the worst part about Screechin' Eagle's station is that it sits IDLE....:(
The IB stations for HH and Cornball look stupid, they are high off the ground, and the trains have ads all over them....but Cornball is one heck of a ride so I'll let it slide. :)

Speaking of stations high off the ground; all of you coming to Mt Olympus for the first time this year get ready for a real workout.

Agreed! Especially since it is one of my favorite coasters anywhere and aside from the Wyandot Sea Dragon, is physically the closest roller coaster to me.

My least favorite station would have to be Magnum's station. Not because of looks but because they let SO MANY people in there at one time. *** Edited 3/21/2005 8:44:31 PM UTC by Stanley76***

I wonder why no one mention Boomerang at WOF. This looks like a coaster station you would see at a carnival placed on a permanent coaster. I am not considering Jack Rabbit or Thunder Bolt stations at Celebration City becasue they are not really permanent coasters. The Other Coaster that may be ugly but I didn't think was very much at all even though ment to be a temp ride there is XLR-8 at SFAW, compared to the Boomerang at WOF this station is preaty.

However my favorite Coaster Station is Wildfire, with themeing all over the place inside it keeps you busy looking at it while waiting on those long line days for Wildfire. BTW Powder Keg issn't all that bad either.

And would someone Please PLease PLease tell me why most stations are raise so high off the ground?

It just makes more sense this way. With the station furthur off the ground, the lift doesn't have to be as long, and the train doesn't come into the brakes with so much speed... it just makes everything cheaper. Another alternative is to have the station on the ground and have the track go UNDER that level, but some coasters are built on flat land, so that is not an option. Most coasters I ever build (RCT, NoLimits...) have raised stations.

Welcome back, red train, how was your ride?!
My votes go for the horrid Chang @ SFKK, and Screamin Eagle @ SFStL, the Eagle in the pebbles is awesome, but once you get to the switchbacks they are horribly worn out and not to mention very thin and claustrophic. They smell also, I'd say that SFStL just jeeds to work on there park more, it has so much potential......
Although I hate Magnum's station for the reason Stanley76 mentioned, I have to say it makes it really easy to grab a seat in rows 2 and 3. Most of the people who crowd around the front of the train are waiting for the front seat, so you can usually get into the second row with no wait.

Most beach rides have Really ugly stations (ofcourse), especially the coaster ones. Hypersonic XLC has a pretty lame station from the time I've been there.
