Two kids suffer injuries on Six Flags Great America Tornado

Posted | Contributed by Brucey

Two children fell out of their raft in the Tornado at Six Flags Great America in north suburban Gurnee Wednesday. One of the children suffered a head injury and the other escaped with only a bump. Kids say that raft went "all the way to the top of the funnel" when they fell out.

Jeff,

So you're saying that if the ride attendants were not trained properly about ride safety and using proper sized rafts for the ride, that's not Six Flags fault? Parks have rules for a reason, however when the park employees break the rules by either not understanding the rules or not enforcing the rules, then the park should be held responsible, not the people riding the rides.

If the ride attendant let these 2 kids ride that ride in a raft that was made for 4 people, and it flipped over, (this is a very good possibility from what I experienced waiting to ride this ride as the accident happened) THIS IS WHAT ALSO CAN GO WRONG WITH A RIDE - THIS ONE MAY NOT BE RIDER MISBEHAVIOR.

I just rode in the same raft with one other person. I watched dozens of them go down the chute with two, three and four people.
I have been on the Tornado twice this year. Both times I have been on with 2 other people and myself. If your holding on or not it is VERY possible for the raft to flip over. While going down the tube, our raft was in the air for a couple of seconds causeing us to kind of get lifted off the raft. I'm going to have to agree with Keely's mom 100%.
Even if they were able to go to the top, they could not because theirs a spayer at the top which spays water down the funnel. The kids could not get past the spayer.
