No, they're not similar. PR's first decent is of the likes to SFGAm's former ShockWave and SFNJ's Great American Scream Machine.
PMBO's first drop has an Expedition Ge-Force style to it.
I've been on both, within weeks of each other. They're not identical, but they ARE similar, at least in my opinion. YMMV.

Let's compare:
Pepsi Max - Tall, sharp twist, painful
Phantom's Revenge - About 100 feet shorter, more gradual twist, extremely enjoyable.
-----------------
-Kyle Brylczyk
KoRn - Untouchables
I found nothing painful about PepsiMax... it's one of my favorite rides, actually.
The drops are pretty similar, the biggest differences being as already stated: PR goes 180 degrees, PepsiMax 90 degrees; PR is 165', Pepsi Max is over 200'.

I personally like the drop on Anaconda better (of course PR is my preferred ride!)

PMBO's drop struck me as in between those two examples. It seemed to take more of the drop twisting than Anaconda does, but as others have pointed out doesn't twist the whole way down like PR.

Can we all agree that a twisting drop is better than a straight on drop like on the Magnum or Steel Force.I think so.

Im not so sure which I like better...the twisting drops are neat for sure, I have ridden Phantoms Revenge's, and back when it was the steel phantom, but I think I prefer the straight drop...more visual sensation, I think.

Kennywood Park, America's finest traditional amusement park.
However, on woodies, I really *do* like the curved drops of say Viper (shallow curve) and ROAR-east (sharp curve). But I have dual-personalitiets whe it comes to stuff like that.

Pepsi Max's drop is similar to that of PR (it's bigger, of course). The actual "twisting" part is fun, but I really like the straight, non-banking drop of Magnum or Steel Force a whole lot better.
Pepsi Max is much like the real soft drink - once opened, it goes flat very quickly (that's not my line - I got it off an unofficial BPB website, but I think it's an accurate assessment of the coaster). Its 235 foot first hill is definitely the best part of the ride - overall, I thought it was a rather meandering, awkardly-paced coaster that looks much more intimidating than it actually is. The end of the ride doesn't leave much to be desired, either, and for a steel hypercoaster, doesn't offer as much airtime as I would have liked (I did ride in the front seat, which may have made a difference, maybe not).
I'm not aware of any modification to the first drop, Intamin Fan - I do know that one of the trains rear-ended a second train that was parked in the loading station, prompting several Arrow people to fly to Blackpool to investigate the incident. It was a big broo-ha-ha at the time but it didn't affect the coaster's popularity.

PMBO's 1st drop was reprofiled in 1996 after the coaster opened in 1994! Its an extension of the section of track just after the summit of the lift, before the drop starts. This meant that the twist section of track had to become sharper and steeper. The turnaround was also reprofiled, again, making it bank sharper and curve tighter. The lift hill is 214 ft, not the 235 ft claimed. This is that publicity stunt gone wrong where the claimed height of the ride is measured from sea level, as the pleasure beach is built on the, er, beach!
The best curved drops IMO are on the Schwarzkopf travelling mult loopers, such as Magnum Force

Heck no! On the rare occasion that "better than" and "I like..." topics ae actually interesting enough to survive on this site, it's the disagreeing that makes it work. Holding different opinoins is a good thing, or it would be quite a boring world.
