TV show airing this week features amusement parks

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Fall has just arrived, but amusement park lovers have a chance to recapture the sights and sounds of summer. The Great American Country cable network — part of the Scripps Networks Interactive family that includes HGTV, the Food Network and Travel Channel — is premiering a new series this week All-American Amusement Parks. It will first air at 8 p.m. Eastern, Oct. 2.

I watch POVs so I can determine how good the ride is.

While I'm sure there is some sarcasm in your post, Brakeman, there's plenty of truth to it as well.

For example. I can use POV videos to determine that the worlds fastest rollercoaster looks like a total snoozefest. Every single airtime hill is crept over so slowly.

Then I can watch a POV of Lightning Run, at KK. On paper, and in pictures, this thing looks completely forgettable. Until I watch this and say "Holy crap, I need to find a way to add this to the next HW trip!"

So I made the mistake of tuning in.

Those of you without GAC didn't miss anything. One of the brothers from some house flip show rides coasters with 'superfans' who are every bit over the top, expressive and annoying as needed for TV to make run of the mill coasters seem like the greatest things on Earth.

(They actually got a girl to say Steel Pier was her favorite amusement park...on camera...with a straight face)

The highlight for us was realizing that one of the Coney Island superfans was a contestant on last season of Food Network's Worst Cooks in America. I think that says it all.

I agree with this statement somewhat, even if you are being sarcastic. I'm not saying I can tell "how good a ride is," exactly. What I am saying is that it gives me a better idea if I would be interested in riding the particular ride if I have a chance to. A POV gives me an idea of how good a ride is, according to my likes and dislikes.

I sometimes make myself laugh out loud when I am alone, just by thinking something funny, if that tells you anything.

I watch POV's in the off season when I can't ride for real. It can be a nice little pick me up sort of thing when it's 10 below and there's 2 feet of snow outside. I also like to occasionally watch POV's of coasters that are no more but that I rode before they met their demise. It's kind of like looking at dead relatives in a photo album.

If there's 2 feet of snow outside...

I'm moving further South. ;~)

One thing I do watch is POVs of Disney dark rides.

Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

Yea. I'm not as successful and traveled like some other posters here, so I only get to two to four amusement parks per year. I'll take all the POVs I can get, dark rides included.

I mostly like to see POVs of rides I will probably not get a chance to ride. There are a lot of obscure dark rides too. I especially enjoy seeing new technologies being used on the ride in the videos.
