TCM will help the Walt Disney Parks and Resorts division make changes to the Great Movie Ride, a long-running attraction at the Disney’s Hollywood Studios section of Disney World in Orlando, Fla. In return, TCM will receive “Presented by” credits at the attraction on posters, banners, display windows, marquees and the like, which will also display the TCM logo.

I hope this doesn't mean it will be closed as well, because it's starting to sound like nothing in that park will exist next year.
I havent gotten to ride that thing since it first came out, but I remember it being cool. The Alien alone was pretty kickass. I hope this will really breathe a little life into it, and as you said, that the ride won't be closed.
I think it's pretty hopelessly dated right now. The montage at the end is the best part, and that's not saying much.
I've only been on it once, and I thought it was completely horrible. I welcome any change.
I agree that it's a pretty terrible ride. I'll wait and see what changes are made before I consider riding it again. I would say that it's only redeeming quality is that it's in an air conditioned building but most of the attractions at Hollywood Studios are.
So they're sending the old ride back to Kansas?
Aaand having watched a video of the ride, I can honestly say that sucked. I loved it when I was a kid, but now the ride seems so STATIC. Especially now that there are rides like Harry Potter that are so incredibly immersive. I hope they can do something good for the ride though, as I like the idea and think it is worth a second chance.
I can appreciate the ride, but I had terrible tour guides, and from the videos I've seen, that must be where they send all the terrible actors.
Or ushers that need punished.
I think people looking for any major upgrades inside the ride are going to be disappointed. Sounds like this is mostly related to pre-show and the editing of the finale scene. Hopefully they will at least install new digital projectors throughout the ride.
