tunnels on coasters -- any effect?

I was experimenting with one of my coasters by putting tunnels in the circuit and I noticed that the coaster's excitement value goes up very little -- something like 0.01 -- for each tunnel past the first. But I've always thought coasters with tunnels were better and got more riders. Is that true? Does it depend on the individual coaster? Thanx

I think it has a lot to do with the pacing of the tunnels. If there are too many, they'll just be boring. If there are well placed tunnels on certain drops, or turns, etc...it will raise the excitement considerably. I built an awesome inverted that never really rises much above the ground...it just flies through tunnels and trenches and such...it's great! Anyway, I just build coasters the way that I think would be really fun, without being too intense (for the game's sake.) Almost always, this gives me a coaster with less than 10 intensity and greater than 7.5 excitement.

Rant rant rant! Just kidding! Actually I noticed an increase when I built Magnum. I tested it first without tunnels, then went back and placed them where they fall on the prototype. Even my Double Loop went up....just like real life! Instead of the same old Arrow "curve before the lift" you have something to really whoop and hollar about!

Scale model coasters and rides.....

WHEN I BUILD A WOODEN COASTER OF 200 FEET, 88 MPH, I TRYED IT WITHOUT A TUNNEL, THEN THE 2ND TIME I PUT ONE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE FIRST DROP AND ADDED 3 MORE TUNNELS THROUGH OUT THE RIDE. TUNNELS DO HAVE EFFECT'S ON RIDES, MAKES IT MORE ENJOYABLE. BY THE WAY THE NAME OF THE COASTER WAS WOOD FORCE.
I usually put tunnels in whenever I can just to get more height on drops, but I had never actually paid attention to how much they help the ratings. But I've built plenty w/o tunnels and I've never noticed a significant difference. And BTW, that coaster I did my "experiment" on was just a test coaster and it was really lame (something like 5.something on excitement) so maybe tunnels wouldn't have helped it much anyway.
