Tuned mass dampers(?) added to TT2

It is not. They apparently retrofitted it. Or at least, that's what the satellite photos of Zamperla HQ implied.

Wow. That's crazy. You'd think it would be a pain to swap out all that hardware (brake fins, motors, catch car track) and replace it.

A friend rode it yesterday and said it was the shakiest steel coaster he's ever been on. It also went down early yesterday afternoon and hasn't been up since.

What… They’ve never ridden Rip Ride Rocket?

PhantomTails:

Looking at Queuetimes it opened earlier this afternoon and has been pretty consistent today.

The Dampener looks kinda cool, maybe they can give it some eyes, a mouth, a nose and a name! Geeks going to be watching!

Took two laps on Monday afternoon (5/12). It was kinda fitting to ride the ride on the day it shutdown for good a year later. This year I currently have 13 laps, hoping for 2-3 later this week

If anyone cares:

Got 2 rides on Sunday. That makes 2 this year, 2 last year, all in the last car.

Last year both rides (last row) were very shakey, side to side.

Sunday, both rides (last row, 2nd to last row) had no noticeable shaking at all.

Did anyone ever figure out if there's an unseen fail safe at the top of the back spike? Or is it really an RCT style yeet into the lagoon if there's a massive failure?

OhioStater's avatar

Do you mean an unnecessary "feel safe" at the top?

ba-dum-tss.

I've asked a few people who have been there (we have not) and as far as I can tell there is still nothing there. Adds to the excitement.

Also no reports of shakiness.

Zero shimmy.

The lack of a stopper makes me uneasy when I look at it but could it generate enough speed to yeet it off the spike? If it could would they wouldn’t need the swing launch at all right? RIGHT?

I doubt it could exceed 380ft with guests. The physics don’t allow for it

Why not? Do you know what the potential output of the LSM run is? Without knowing that, I'm not sure you could make that assertion.

How beefy would the stopper need to be to stop a train loaded with peeps? If the LSM's failed and blasted that train as hard as possible what would the impact force be? Is that even possible?

Alexander James:

Sure, they do, those LSM's get that train over the 420ft tower just on the other end of the track. Would they have enough power to do it over the back spike? If we add the fourth secret launch and rename it Top Kill 2 then we are onto something.

But in being a bit more serious, the acceleration was decreased slightly and now runs for a longer duration compared to last year's forces on TT2. Some dude has a site where he uses an accelerometer to plot the g's against time, and they are two different curves. So those LSM's do have more to give, is it enough???? Beats me.

Every other ride with a spike has a stopper on top of it. Look at Pantheon or Vertical Velocity at Great Adventure for recent examples. Do they know something that Zamperla doesn’t?

Easy fix.

Down time 0% 😆😆😆

If TT2 needed a stopper it'd already have one. Hoping for a blast later this year.

Nothing to see here. Move along.
