I wouldn't chalk it up entirely to perspective in that particular photo. Those species of birds are massive! Blue herons have a wingspan of 6-7 feet, not to mention the 4 feet of body/legs that they carry.

For some reason, I had this strange idea that Ron Toomer's background was aeronautics, although looking at Roller Coasters, Flumes and Flying Saucers again, I don't know why I thought that, as it suggests that he's mechanical...
So where did all those jokes about not needing to be a rocket scientist to design coasters come from?

During media day of Apollo's Chariot at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, Fabio was riding Apollo's Chariot and he got hit in the face by a bird. He came back to the station bloodied and looking pretty bad. You can see pictures and a video here.
