TTD: Bugs and Birds?

Here is a link to the photo I mentioned earlier. It looks like a massive bird flying into the side of the tower. It also shows the long line spilling out into the midway.

Is this the difference between rides designed by civil engineers and rides built by aeronautical engineers?

Micheal Waltrips car at Daytona vs a Sea Gull was rather interesting. Birds just tend to explode when they get hit at 200 MPH.

It left a gaping hole in the front of his car.

I wouldn't chalk it up entirely to perspective in that particular photo. Those species of birds are massive! Blue herons have a wingspan of 6-7 feet, not to mention the 4 feet of body/legs that they carry.

people have hit birds on MF. A lady (probly 50ish) had her hands up and after the last bunny hop hit a bird. her hand was probly broken, it looked like it atleast

I made some comment about aeronautical versus civil engineers and John wanted to know who was who...

For some reason, I had this strange idea that Ron Toomer's background was aeronautics, although looking at Roller Coasters, Flumes and Flying Saucers again, I don't know why I thought that, as it suggests that he's mechanical...

So where did all those jokes about not needing to be a rocket scientist to design coasters come from?

What is the "Fabio Incedent?"
During media day of Apollo's Chariot at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, Fabio was riding Apollo's Chariot and he got hit in the face by a bird. He came back to the station bloodied and looking pretty bad. You can see pictures and a video here.

Haha. Everone laughs at that one (when I tell it to them).

At Talladega a rabbit got hit by a busch driver running 200 and it smashed a nice hole in the front of his car.
They have so many bugs at the point, and before I knew I rode Iron Dragon at night in the front row, and there was so many bugs it felt like rain hitting me the whole time. That night I was washing bugs, out my hair in the shower, and it was not fun. I could only imagine what any of the other coasters would be like at night.
