Triple Wheel Down Under?

I was just perusing RCDB and came across this picture taken at Sydney's Wonderland:

A couple comments/questions:
Why didn't Paramount purchase this park?
Is this picture taken from a Triple Wheel? (or just a two arm version?)
Was it relocated from, say, SF Great America?

Thanks!

Its most likely a 2-arm. The triple wheel from what I heard was only installed at the 2 original Marriott parks but I could be wrong. Anyone care to chime in on this?

Score one for Chitown! It's a two-arm & named the Zodiac. It was relocated from a park in the US, don't know which one. Could be a Paramount park as they built the park in 1985 & sold it in 1988 to the Sunway Group - a Malaysian Consortium.

The Bush Beast is a clone of Grizzly @ PKD, both designed by KEC. Not sure if there are any others. I've sworn not to ride the BB again 'till the park retracks it. It shakes so badly it is excruciating. The trim brakes stop it to a near stop before the 2nd drop. Before it was never used. Word is it's being retracked, will see how it goes. I haven't been on the Grizzly & don't want to! :)

Here's the best pic I've taken of it.

It is a two arm version called the Zodiac. I wish Paramount would buy this park, it really needs some form of investement. No new rides since the Space probe (a freefall drop) in 1995. The Bush beast is a lot of fun, if a bit painfull at the back. The mid trim brakes after the first turn around stop the train completely before the second drop, which is ultra annoying.

There are rumours going around of moving some kiddie rides, hopefully to make way for  a new coaster. Heres hoping.

Hey, another Aussie! Welcome mate, where've you been seeing you joined in May? I joined this site a year ago.

I agree with your comments, Paramount ought to buy back the park again or Six Flags could buy it. Actually I want it to become Aussie owned as am not happy with overseas owners controlling the park.

I really hope the new coaster happens as some rumours debunk this. :(

Two armed hmmm? I had a sneaking suspicion that Great America had the only 2. I had also heard before that the Bush Beast was a clone of the Grizzleys. Is there one at Canada's Wonderland (Wild Beast). Weren't they all originally copies of the Shooting Star at Cincinatti's Coney Island??? Anybody able to name all of them?

(I'm just full of questions today aren't I?)

Speaking of Paramount not picking up Sydney's Wonderland, seems they did pick up KECO's other non-US park, Canada's Wonderland (cool! Never made the "Wonderland" connection before!). I wonder why Canada and not Australia?

I believe that PKI had an Intamin Double Wheel until Flight Commander was installed.

Bush Beast is a recreation of the Coney Island Wildcat as are Wild Beast at PCWo and the two Grizzlys at PKD and PGA. Mighty Canadian Minebuster (PCWo) is the only recreation of the Shooting Star.

janfrederick, speaking of why Paramount picked up the KECO park in North America and not the one in Australia, I'll go with my GUESS that PCWo was a better fit geographically for Paramount...

I wonder if Sydney's Wonderland was a financial burden for KECO? Then again, seems to me that Australia doesn't seem to lack interest in parks. Perhaps you are right...easier to run parks on your home continent.

Kings Island had a lovely Double Wheel named Zodiac from 1975 until the mid-'80s. I do not know when it left KI, but it's a good chance that this was theirs since it disappeared around that time. KI's barrels also spun, like the one at Hershey.

Nitro230, Intamin (I believe) manufactured gigantic ferris wheels that had 12 spokes at the end of each arm. Both Great America parks had Triple Wheels,, and various other parks around the world (including Hershey Park and Kings Island) have hosted the Double Wheels,(scroll down) which acts as a teeter totter. This is not to be confused with the popular Skywheel. Have I lost you yet? :)
