Trenches and track rides

My kid is starting to mess with the game now, and he's doing track rides because that's the easiest thing for a 6-year-old to do. No pesky gravity or physics to deal with! That said, I'm incredibly disappointed at the way they build. You do a simple car ride, and it digs a trench around the whole damn track. For all of the details that they get right, how did they get that so wrong? It does it with the monorails and even the train to a degree.

Make sure "Auto-Tunnel" is off. It is on by default on these rides for some reason. The option is in the little scroll menu where you would find chain speed and stuff on a coaster.

Oh, no kidding! It never occurred to me that's what was doing it.

Then I presume you should be vigilant and make sure that when you go to build a coaster that "auto tunnel" is re-enabled so your rides don't just smash into the terrain.
But that trench on a track ride would make me nuts.

I have not fully figured out the terrain tools, so I leave auto-tunnel off anyway. I really hoped I helped Jeff. I don't really post , but this was a simple answer

Now I'm wondering how to place trees on hills that don't set perpendicular to the slope. It's silly that a tree can even be placed to stick horizontally out of a hillside.

Two steps for this (after selecting the desired object):

1. Uncheck "align to surface"

2. Press "X" to switch to Advanced move mode. This allows you to adjust the object along one axis at a time. Pressing X again will switch to rotation. If the object is not moving as desired in advanced move, try the "use world axis" option.

I have been trying to learn the scenery controls better over the past few days, nothing to show off though. I picked up most of these scenery/building tips from watching Twitch streams, but there are still some major limits with it. (I doubt Frontier would see this, but object size scaling please?)

That's not practical for placing hundreds of trees!

I know, but there is no alternative. Take a look at this time lapse by one of the most promoted YouTube creators (since the Alpha) with this game. He either does what I described, and duplicates (ctrl+x to keep advanced move parameters) or places them on flattened terrain.

Less charm

More concrete.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks, than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
