Track Spotted: Universal Studios Hollywood

Maybe I'm behind on hearing all the rumors, but I don't recall hearing anything about USH. I was attending a work related function at the Universal Sheridan and upon my arrival, I saw a truck with what looked like 2 sections of Premier track, black in color.

I thought I remembered hearing about a Mummy themed coaster, but I thought that was for Universal in Florida?

I am behind on the rumors as well, but I am pretty sure that someone said that Universal Hollywood is getting a Mummy themed coaster as well. Now all Universal Hollywood needs is a Islands of Adventure next door! ;)

USH has removed the E.T. ride and is putting the Mummy coaster in that building. Opens in Spring 2004.

Interesting....Duane HAD listed the USH ride name as "Mummy: The Ride", and USF's as "Revenge of the Mummy". The FL one has the mfr. as Premier, which certainly agrees with all the track sightings. Makes good sense that the USH ride will be the same mfr. Now that the names are the same, is it *safe to assume* that the rides will be identical, and both will feature forward/backward travel?

Good to hear more track is finally coming. One section of track has been on site for a few months already. I can't remember which website I saw it on.

No, not at all. The old E.T. building in California and the old Kong building in Florida are not the same size and the rides will not be identical. Similar perhaps, but not identical.

Not sure if one will be better then the other at this point, but I *am* happy that USH is finally getting a coaster. And at the same time that Florida gets their's instead of years later as has been the case with most other new attractions. I bemoan the loss of any dark ride, (and especially E.T.) but I think the tradeoff will be worth it.

I'm wondering if Universal plans to open these rides up at the same time, or if one will open earlier then the other. When did Kong close? E.T. didn't close until mid-March. I figure there was probably a similar amount of demolition that they had to go through with each ride. But they may have started on Kong before E.T..

Finally, a good reason to go to USH. I'll be there in 2004!
