TR: Kennywood 7/24

Associated parks:
None

This is my trip to Kennywood on July 24th.

Well Dan and his brother Dave arrived at my house around ten. We had to drop off his dad on Ft Duqesne(SP?) Blvd. It took us a little over an hour to get through all the detours and traffic in Pittsburgh, then it took us and hour and a half to get to Kennywood, mapquest actually failed us.

We entered the park and Dan set off the alarm around 4-6 times, we lost count. We headed for the Jackrabbit and saw the line to be roughly an hour and a half, we decided not to do it. We decided to go to lost Kennywood and we got in line for Noah's Ark. We then ediced to go on Phantom's Revenge. We were two trains away, then the ride ops put on the second train. I now have nice footage of an empty train going through the circuit. We found a major ejector seat with a great ride, car two seat two. We got off of that and then went to the Pitt Fall, nice and easy ride, followed by a quick lap on the Whip.

Next we went over and got the very back seat on the Thunderbolt. Played the fishing came and I won three erasers. Next heading to the train we got to see a nice veiw of Kiddieland. We then rode the antique cars.

Then took a good ride of the merry-go-round and then going on the paratroopers. We finished off our day at the Kangaroo and then left the park. The GP factor was too high to stick around.

We took another hour and a half tour of Pittsburgh and then I finally got home around 8. A very nice day at the park, there were alot of people still coming when we left. But a nice day it was.

-edit-

I forgot, we got stuck on the Raging Rapids. Right before the first gate we were sitting there and then a wave took us over into the corner, everytime we almost got over another raft would push us back, we think 15-20 minutes passed and then we got out of the corner. Talk about getting stuck in a weird place.

Where would they possibly put 1.5 hours worth of people in the Jackrabbit line?

No Racer Jack Rabbit or Exterminator?

That sounds like about a 2 hour trip to Kennywood ...

And there is no such thing as an hour and a half line at Kennywood except maybe first seat on PR or Exterminator when its feeling like breaking down a lot ...

No really we were there for six hours, I am NOT joking, we did do alot of walking though.

An hour and a half to drive there and an hour and a half wait on Jack Rabbit?

Granted, I realize detours and construction, but how did you go? By way of Ligonier? And the hour and a half wait on Jack Rabbit? Where did they put all of the people? I assume that the line went out of the queue, curved pase the Old Mill, went past the Grand Prix, and ended somewhere near the entrance to PR?

But I must admit... the line "The GP factor was too high to stick around" stopped me cold in my tracks. I've heard everything now.

Kind of hard to take a post as objective if a park or coaster name is part of the "user name"

On the absolute busiest day of the year, the Jack Rabbit line may approach 35 minutes. Yesterday it was hardly busy.

15-20 minutes in a corner of the Rapids?

Your watch must run r-e-a-l-l-l-l-l-l-l-l-l-y slow.

OR.....the line went the opposite way. Past Racer, Log jammer, endding somewhere by Aero 360. Hour and a half please! Probably more like 20 minutes.

You people crack me up....

I've been to Kennywood 2 times and both times the park was very crowded with long lines (at least 1 hour for most of the rides)....why do you find this TR so hard to believe?

I just read Woody's TR called 5 Parks, 2 Days Day1 and he too was at Kennywood on 7/24 and in his report he says that the park was packed...uuuhmm, maybe it was crowded.

I think Mapquest directions are not very good! I tried to use them a few times and they seem to like to get me lost! One time I used them for directions to Balt-Wash Int'l Airport from Lancaster PA and it was way off! Now, I always get directions for the place I am going to (ie., the airport or the amusement park).

Okay i agree packed maybe. Hour and a half for Jackrabbit never. The queue is only long enough for about 45 minutes at the most. He said he went by and the line "looked" like it was a hour and a half. We was just pointing out it isnt possible.

It was not busy on July 24th. Period. I was there, as I am most other days.

What are you talking about hell? Its only an exit then a hill and oh yea dont turn off it, then a bridge and a right or a left depending on ur preference, and then a left and another left if you go left the first time and then you just go ... uh ... ok so its hell =) What ever happened to the yellow arrows anyway? I did see a PennDOT blue "attraction" sign just before the squirrel hill exit though last time I was in Monroeville, maybe if you're coming from the east, itll be easier to find now?

This TR still boggles my mind - there are only 3 times in my life I have ever experienced a line or even the possibility of a line over an hour at Kennywood ... PittFall's first year, PR's first year and Aero 360's first year, front seat, and 15 minutes of downtime while in the line. That's it ... in the 13 years that I actually remember going to the park. And I was there on one of the largest crowd days Kennywood could ever have. Ya know that upper parking lot? Yea, well behind that, theres another gravel lot, then if you go behind that and down a short hill theres another lot and oh yea, behind that in the large grassy field halfway to Monroeville, THAT was where I parked (and the line for Jackrabbit, Racer and Thunderbolt were still under 30 minutes). Whatever genuis schedules UPMC and Giant Eagle picnics on the same day ...

Yep....Fall Fantasy last year was busy also. No long lines still. This guy was smoking somethin'....lol Maybe the industrial area around there got to him. Who knows.
